 People tend to assume that anything labeled natural or traditional medicine is automatically safer than prescription drugs and this is simply not the case. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try some natural treatments for your menopause symptoms but rather it just means that you need to exercise caution, discuss your options with a doctor and be sure to tell your doctor about all the alternative medicines that you are taking as they can interact with prescribed medicines.


Of course, because of the recent alarm over hormone replacement therapy (HRT) being linked to cancer, alternative medicines have begun to become more popular. But these come with their own set of warnings. Black cohosh, dong quai, ginseng, evening primrose oil, soy and kava, red clover are some of the more popular home remedies currently being sold for the treatment of menopause.

 


Some people have been touting the use of soy as a natural menopause treatment. And although soy does have phytoestrogens which is a type of plant estrogen, currently there is not enough evidence to provide conclusive proof it works. The good news about soy is that it is virtually risk free and a healthy addition to your menu, so why not eat more just for the heck of in anyhow.

The best natural treatments you can do for your menopause symptoms are also the easiest and most risk free. Do weight bearing exercise to help reduce bone loss and osteoporosis symptoms. This can include fast walking, dancing, weight lifting and aerobics. Make sure you have a diet with lots of calcium and vitamin D. You should be getting 1000 mg of calcium either through your diet or with a supplement. Quitting smoking and cutting down on alcohol can also help reduce symptoms. Just getting the required 8 hours of sleep a night and trying some yoga to increase flexibility and reduce stress can have positive effects with no side effects.

I know we usually look for the quick drug fix but with these simple steps you can increase your quality of life and better manage your menopause symptoms with absolutely no side effects. What’s not to like about that.
