If you are one of those people who suffer from frequent headaches, it is not surprising you are tired of dealing with this problem and would prefer not to always have to rely on medication in order to get your head to stop pounding. Always using drugs as a way to combat the issue is not usually a good approach as the body will start to become immune to some of them over time and you will need to only further increase your dosage. Instead you should seek out ways that you can help remedy your headache naturally through the foods you eat. This is a much safer approach and one that will not only hopefully provide pain relief but will also provide essential nourishment as well.

Caffeine

While in some people caffeine can be a trigger of headaches, for others it is one thing that can provide just as much relief as ibuprofen or other similar painkillers. Just as it can provide relief however, you can definitely overdo this one and end up not only addicted to it where you get to the point that if you go without it, it will in itself trigger a headache.

Complex Carbohydrates

Complex carbohydrates, coming from such sources of whole grain bread, brown rice and pasta, legumes and vegetables can be a powerful weapon against the fight of migraines. They are a major source of energy for your body and can help to reduce the duration and severity of the migraines that you experience. Some individuals experience an onset of migraines when they come down from a spike in blood sugar levels so being sure that the majority of your carbohydrates come from complex sources will help to remedy this problem.

Ginger

Ginger is a great natural relief herb that has been used by many for the treatment of headaches. It has antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties and when taken when you first are experiencing the symptoms of a migraine can help to reduce the chances that it will get worse. Try adding some ginger to your next stir-fry to incorporate it into your diet or alternatively sip on some fresh ginger tea.


Magnesium

Magnesium, a vitamin that is found in legumes, chard, squash, spinach, black-eyed peas and low fat milk, can help to reduce the frequency which you experience migraine problems. You should try and aim to consume 400 mg per day of this important vitamin.

Omega-3's

Omega-3's are the newly touted dietary aid that are proving to be useful for a wide variety of conditions from controlling insulin resistance to reducing your chances of developing cancer. Now some research studies are also showing that they have anti-inflammatory properties that may help prevent migraines before they hit. To get enough in your diet however you would have to consume quite a high amount of cold water fish like salmon so it may be best to look into supplementation of this particular nutrient. Taken in capsule form it is a quick and convenient way to ensure you are meeting your needs.

So don't let migraines prevent you from enjoying your life. Look into the many different natural remedies that are out there to help sufferers. If you can find one in particular that works for you it could save you from having to turn to over the counter or prescription medicine.
