Susan, you need to stick to pet grooming unless you obtain a degree in nutrition like I have. Sodium selenite is a source of selenium -- a very important antioxidant that preserves other antioxidants like vitamin E. Without these antioxidants, free radicals caused by oxidation of fats attack your cell's DNA and can cause cancer and other detrimental conditions. Potassium chloride is used as a salt replecement so that food manufacturers don't have to use as much sodium. All animals need a certain amount of sodium in their diet (NRC/AAFCO guidelines are .20% for non-therapeutic diets, if I'm not mistaken). Quit messing with people who are just trying to find a good food for their pet.

Susan, I'm a bit confused over your negative posts on Potassium Chloride and Sodium Selenite. Your source of information on these mineral salts is Wikipedia and you seem to ignore the fact that they are used in human grade foods as supplements for Potassium and Selenium. To only point out their manufacturing usage or KCl's usage for lethal injection is alarmist imho. As Wikipedia points out, it takes massive overdoses of these salts to cause harm. Now, if these pet food companies use unsafe amounts of these additives or do not answer to how much is added, I'm with you. And I'm with you on not adding "salt" (NaCl), though is a little really that bad with an ample water source? But, I can't find your bio, so I guess I'm questioning where you are coming from on these recommendations as I do look to your site. Please let me know! Thank you!
