Need for speed is a popular car racing game.Its very addictive and many people tend play this game for hours.
Lets look at the various series of NFS starting from the first one.
NFS 2 was more exotic than first one.
Version of NFS (Need for speed )
The first PC version of NFS was released in 1994. It was for DOS(DOS or Disk operating system is a command line operating system prior to windows 95.)
In this game (typical adrenaline pumping car race game) some roads(tracks) and cars are locked. They get unlocked as the user plays the game , win the game and score points.The chase by police is present starting from the first version itself.
Then came another version of this game , known as The Need for Speed: Special Edition was released on the 1995 , It featured support for DirectX 2 (Microsoft DirectX is a collection of application programming interfaces
(API s) for handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming and video, on Microsoft platforms)
Two new tracks, and various enhancements in the game engine was a special feature of this edition.
Then came the next version NFS 2 (1997) which had more some of the rarest and most exotic vehicles ever available and some country themed tracks.
Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit (1998)
This version added Hot Pursuit mode.
In this mode the player either attempted to outrun the police or be the cop, arresting speeders.
This version was more thrilling than the previous ones.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (2002)
This series is similar in the game-play and style of NFS III.
its aim was on evading the police and win tracks featuring lengthy shortcuts.Even if the game allowed players to play as the police, the pursuit mode was drastically less realistic than preceding versions of NFS;.
This version can be considered to be the landmark in EA's move from realistic racing to arcade street racing.

Need for Speed: Underground (2003)
NFS Underground offers a career mode that features a storyline, and a garage mode that allowed players to fully customize their cars with a large variety of performance and visual upgrades.
Races take place fully at night, and police pursuits were also forgone-characteristics that were reused here . It featured vehicles associated with import tuner culture. Also the arcade-like controls, became points of controversy for NFS fans. Despite of all these things , Underground was commercially very successful.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005)
Here the story mode has significantly different style from Underground, It has CGI effects mixed with live action. The mode also features a blacklist, consisting of 15 racers that the player must beat one by one for unlocking parts, cars and tracks.
A special "Black Edition" of Most Wanted was also released.
Need for Speed: Carbon (2006)
Here we can see the return of nighttime only racing.The selection of cars is similar to that of Most Wanted. Carbon also introduced a new feature where the player is allowed to form a "crew," to which members with different abilities may be chosen that aid the player in races..
This game was released on November 1, 2006 for Windows-based personal computers... Drag racing was removed from the series, but a new type of race called "Canyon Duel" was added, where the player and a game boss take turns racing down a canyon, trying to stay as close to the leader as possible.
Another new feature allows players to custom-fabricate their own ground effects, rims, hoods, and other parts.
Need for Speed: ProStreet (2007)
This is the latest one in NFS series.
