I took this of David several years back, but he is still a cutie patootie.

Lay off offers opportunity for service

My nephew David graduated from college over a year ago with a degree in biomedical engineering, got a job in the medical equipment field, switched companies and was promptly laid off.

Rather than feel sorry for himself, he re-focused his energies. He had this dream of riding around North America on his bike and decided now was the time. And what better cause to ride for than Men's Prostate Cancer? After all, the most famous biker in the world, Lance Armstrong overcame this disease!

My brother sent out this email, "David Shirley started his quest for an 8000 mile bike ride this morning. He bought a $1500 bike, and a clever trailer, and off he went. Leaving from the coast of Maine, he plans to go through Canada, and eventually end up in San Diego. Then he turns around and heads back somewhere else in the middle- Utah, I think."

My prayer

Dear Lord,

Please protect my nephew David through this 8000 mile journey. Help him meet good people and good weather, smooth roads and small mountains. When he becomes discouraged and exhausted, inspire him with human energy, will and courage to pedal a bit further. When he encounters danger, wrap him in the light of Your protection. When he experiences loneliness, surround him with the love of Spirit, family and friends.

Please help him fulfill the goals of this ride, raising money and awareness towards overcoming prostate cancer.

What a great gift this is to David, this chance to offer himself in Service on four levels: inner, outer, other, on high.

Thank you so much! Amen

He's a good guy. I'm too far removed to offer him a temporary hearth/home during his journey, but I wish him a safe and successful journey. My prayers are with him. Will also be forwarding the links you've given above to some close friends scattered over the US.

Thanks everyone! I sent him this address so that he could read your supportive comments. This lonely journey will become much easier with generous and encouraging words.

I just met David at the Lyme Country Store in Lyme, NH about 20 minutes ago! He looks wonderful & in great spirits. He gave me his blog and his name & now I am writing to you.

Michele,

There is about a "one in 300 million chance" that you would even SEE David, much less talk to him and find out who he is. There is even LESS chance that you would connect him with Storytellersrus, and her blog.

I can't wrap my brain around this one.

Do you think there is something else going on here??? Does this kind of thing happen to you often? Do you see Angels? This would be a fascinating blog.

Blessings to you,

Dave's Dad, Craig

Hi Craig,

I have managed to hit the 1% of various things here and there in my life so far.

I am blessed with my everyday living and when I meet people like David; there is depth to him & I only shared a snipit of time.

Angels... I think I have, but not in the caricature vision, but more of a feeling of when you meet someone who has... depth! It is difficult to describe.

I have posted David's site & cause on my Facebook & am processing my thoughts of how I will write about him on my blog.

I look forward to "tagging" along on his journey! Cycle on!!

All good things,

Michele

It looks like I am the first of our group to leave a message on your website, Dave. For everyone else reading this, I was biking through Vermont and New York with two friends when we merged with Dave and spent two days biking together before we parted ways in Ticonderoga. Since then, we've asked, "I wonder where Dave is now?" So, where is Dave now? Keep us posted. BTW, thanks for the tip about increasing my cadence: it did take a lot of strain off of my knees and helped with conserving energy. Best of luck going Westward.
