If you are looking for a bit more privacy from prying eyes outside the house or in the garden then net curtains can be a good way to clock out the view while still allowing light through. This is because of the thin texture and lace material of the nets that they let light through but not enough for a person outside to see.

They are common throughout England where privacy seems to be a bit more of a concern than other places around the world. They attract interest also because the that you can look out the window without being seen by people outside although this isn’t the official reason for using them!

Net curtains do have a bit of an old fashioned look about them though and aren’t considered to be in fashion anymore so a lot of households no longer have them. However if you are worried about your privacy or just like the look of net curtains then you can still get them and this article will aim to tell you a bit about them and how you can choose the right ones. Maybe you’ve had enough of prying eyes through the window or maybe you just want a bit of a traditional look to your house. Either way net curtains can provide you with this!

Net curtains have come to have a bit of a negative stigma attached with them, probably because they are representative of the snooty nature of some people living amongst other people on estates and the like. This shouldn’t put you off if you feel that you would benefit from having them though and it is completely your decision. In some cases a bit of extra privacy can help a lot to reducing stress.

How much do they cost?

In most cases net curtains are pretty cheap so you shouldn’t have to break the bank to buy them, although of course it does depend on where you  buy them from. You also have to remember that you’ll probably want to get them for all your windows so your house looks consistently decorated rather than just having it in one and this will mean it could add up to quite a lot of money. At the very least you should try and have one side of the house decorated if you can’t afford to have both sides with nets.

If you buy the average net curtains then you are looking at about £10 per curtain, so if you have 8-10 windows on the house you will have to outlay around £100. This isn’t more than regular curtains though and if you value your privacy then you might not have an option.

How to choose?

Mostly the choice will come down to the style of your house and your tastes. There are differences in quality but the majority of people aren’t going to notice so it isn’t something to worry about. The look is the main thing and also that it provides adequate privacy if that is what you want.

As with buying anything it does pay to shop around to try and find the best deal. There is nothing worse than buying a curtain that you are happy with, only to find another shop has a much nicer one for half the price! Obviously you don’t want to spend hours and hours looking for curtains, but a bit of research can go a long way to saving you money and getting you some curtains that you are really pleased with rather than just average. There are many shops where you can find them but using the internet makes it a lot easier to compare different types and find the perfect curtains.

If you are looking for cafe net curtains then the same principles apply of course, but you’ll probably be buying curtains per metre rather than as a whole. The prices are roughly the same though.

There is also a different type of nets called voile net curtains, and these are also worth a look although they tend to be of a completely different style to the more traditional types that you see in most households. You never know though they might be the ones for you so make sure you have a look at them! Often they are more colourful then their regular lace counterparts.
