What makes people fear Network Marketing?

Almost everyone in this day in age is looking for a way to generate some extra income. To pay off a credit card, to prepare for retirement or to just have some spare cash to spend on their friends or family. There are not a lot of options available and certainly ones that are guaranteed to work.

Network Marketing is something that can definitely help in that regard. It is an attractive industry as the normal, everyday person has the chance to get ahead financialy and become free from the worries of debt. Many, many people have seen success from working a Network Marketing business and have gone from completely broke and even destitute to earning a very good income. Some of the success stories read like the 'Rags to Riches' tale.

Everyone who is searching for a way to make extra income will at some point hear about a Network Marketing opportunity or a MLM company. It is very tempting and looks simple enough for just about anybody to do.

Unfortunately there are far more failures - 97%, than there are successes and as we know - bad news travels really fast! As more and more people are getting into the industry, hopeful of making a fortune, more and more are getting disillusioned.

Why? What happens?

  1. Because people are getting in without fully knowing and understanding how and what they need to do. They are promised $x, $y and $z if they just get a few other people to join also. They are shown the few people who have had success and then are led to believe that they will have the same success - magically, without having to do anything.
  2. There is so much dishonesty and misinformation around what incomes people are really making and what they are really doing to earn it.
  3. Claims of team support, help and training which amounts to a bunch of self development books that have to be purchased every month. Huge outlays - little income.

  4. We all hate spam! We are inundated with offers, deals and get rich quick schemes. We get flyers in the mail, we get emails, we have flashing boxes that appear on the web, and this is what many outsiders perceive Network Marketing to be.
  5. Pushy, salespeople who continually harass everyone they see or meet. Newcomers think they have to go out and do the same.

Clearly every Networking company is different and they don't all do the things listed above, but because of the failure rate, there are 90% more failure stories circulating than there are success stories.

The point I would like to make is that as an Industry, Network Marketing is fantastic and it works, it is the people who ruin it.There are true leaders in the industry and those are the ones we need find, follow and duplicate. Ask the right questions and you will find the right people to team up with.

Absolutely correct Elise. One bad apple can do enormous damage to genuine Network Marketers.

It's amazing anyone "made it" in the old school way of marketing! You are on the right track to helping yourself and anyone who joins you!
