Network Marketing Endorsed by Thomas Friedman???
69Ann Sieg and Thomas Friedman
What do Ann Sieg and Thomas Friedman have in common? They get the big picture. Each in their own way is doing their best to reach out and give people a wake-up call. If the only egg in your basket is a J.O.B. you may want to reconsider, for your children's sake if not for yours. Thomas Friedman endorses network marketing? Well not exactly, but what he said got this MLMer flat out excited. I'm not sure that Friedman is even familiar with MLM yet he describes the business model to a T. Thomas Friedman teaches us why the Internet is for You. Ann Sieg teaches a system for why Internet Network Marketing is for You, as an individual. In fact Ann Sieg teaches us how to combine network marketing with internet marketing and affiliate marketing. Ann Sieg teaches you how to take your business online and generate income within the first month.
Teachers and Parents Get It In Their Gut
Tim Russert who recently passed away was one of my all time favorite interviewers. His sudden death came as a huge shock to me. I well remember when Russert interviewed Thomas Friedman about his book; The World is Flat in October 2005. Friedman said to get to #1 you have to learn something. To get to #1 on the New York Times best seller list you have to catch a wave; something bigger than you. So as he travelled around the country, he asked himself what, what is that wave?
Because there is a wave, a tidal wave--a deep undertow of concern about competition and education. He said that he received more mail from teachers and superintendents of schools than any other group of people. He discovered that American parents are deeply worried. They are worried because they get it. Their kid's competition is on the same plane as kids in China, Japan, Russia or India. They get it in their gut.
Bill Gates Makes a Point
What they get most is a point Bill Gates made to Friedman which is that if you had a choice 30 years ago of being born a genius in Beijing or Bangalore, India or a B student in Bethesda, Maryland you would have chosen to be a B student in Bethesda Maryland because your life chances were so much greater in the U.S. When the world is flat you do not want to be a B student in Bethesda because your life chances will be so much less now.
Every genius in Beijing and Bangalore not to mention Brazil and Russia can compete; can plug in and play as directly as your son or daughter. They get it in their gut and what they're terribly upset about is there is no politician at the national level that they feel is really talking about what's really on their minds and what's really their deepest concern.
This Business Paradigm Shift Will Affect Your Children and Your Grandchildren
We are at the beginning of a huge retailing paradigm shift which will affect our children and grandchildren profoundly. Because, what if your child is just a B student? Over the last few years a number of puzzle pieces have fallen into place for me. One piece fell into place in October 2005 with reading of The World is Flat. Thomas Friedman is a New York Times columnist. In 2002 he won his third Pulitzer Prize for his clarity of vision. This virtually unprecedented recognition by journalists underlines his unique ability to interpret the world. Friedman gives voice to America's awakening sense of a radically new world and our own complex place in it.
Excerpts from Friedman's Book
Here are some excerpts from Friedman's book resonated with me and I hope they will inspire you to read his book. He has an amazing ability to explain complex subjects in a way that even I can understand. Note: I will italicize Friedman's work and insert comments with plain font and brackets.
p.191What's happening now is just the tip of the iceberg... what is really necessary is for everybody to wake up to the fact that there is a fundamental shift that is happening in the way people are going to do business...It's not about ruling anybody....it's about how you can create a great opportunity for yourself...its about being a player...the world is a football field now and you've got to be...on the team which plays on that field. [We are now not only in the information age, we are in the time of the individual. Anyone can have an online presence and no one will know if you are a huge corporation or if you are flying solo in your home office in your pjs. It's about learning to leverage you, one of the secrets of the rich. It's something you can't have with a J.O.B. However to create leverage we need to join a team of players on the field.]
p.199 Nobuyuki Idei, the chairman of Sony said that a change was under way in the business-technology world that will be remembered, in time, like the meteor that hit the earth and killed all the dinosaurs. Fortunately the cutting-edge global companies knew what was going on out there, and the best companies were quietly adapting to it so that they would not be one of those dinosaurs.
[Like a large cruise ship changing direction many of the larger companies will not be able to change course quickly enough. Just as in the stock market, the little guy can see that the big ships, the mutual fund companies are changing direction and they can dart in with their little speed boat and capitalize. We as individuals are now positioned to take advantage of changing trends and leave the big guys wondering what happened.]
The World is Flat
p.199 "Tom, the playing field is being leveled." He meant that countries like India are now able to compete for global knowledge work as never before.... Flattened? Flattened? My God, he's telling me the world is flat!...flat-as flat as that screen on which he can host a meeting of his whole global supply chain. Everything has been reduced to the smallest....
p.10 around the year 2000 we entered a whole new era: Globalization 3.0 [which] is shrinking the world from a size small to a size tiny...The dynamic force in Globalization 3.0-the thing that gives it its unique character-is the new found power for individuals to collaborate and compete globally. Individuals must, and can, now ask, where do I fit into the global competition and opportunities of the day, and how can I on my own, collaborate with others globally? [I have a simple solution.] globalization...has simultaneously wired the world into networks; it gives more power to individuals to influence both markets and nation-states than at any other time in history. globalization can be an incredible force-multiplier for individuals. Individuals can increasingly act on the world stage directly.
p.14 Those who can create value through leadership, relationships and creativity will transform the industry.... No matter what your profession-doctor, lawyer, architect, accountant--if you're an American, you better be good at the touchy-feely stuff...everyone has to focus on their value-add.
- Globalization 1.0- there was a ticket agent
- Globalization 2.0 - there was an e-ticket
- Globalization 3.0 - you are your own ticket agent!
You Are Your Brand
You are your own business! This is about branding YOU not flogging some product or other. Why limit yourself to one network marketing company when you can brand yourself? Why not have multiple streams of income? Why not combine network marketing with affiliate marketing and internet marketing? For more information see my INA article: http://hubpages.com/hub/Network-Marketers-learning-Internet-Marketing-Get-Shot-Down
A Truly Online Business
Why not have a truly online business? One that you can literally do in your pjs? The penny really dropped for me when I was on a free webinar. The presenter was asked if she went out to BNI or other networking events. Her response? No, I don't do that anymore, all my prospects come to me via my web-site. The Power is in Our Hands
p.28 Smaller and smaller units will become more and more empowered [How about households? It's about being owners...He cites an e.g. of] p.463 one Arab company on the NASDAQ..... "They all feel like owners." [We too are owners. Have you seen the West jet commercials? Ownership is becoming a buzz word. [We need to capitalize on it.] The Internet is...an instrument of social revolution. It has put power in different people's hands and connected people who have never been connected before [It has put the power in our hands]
Bill Gates Compared the Internet to the Gold Rush
"p.65 Gates compared the Internet to the gold rush, the idea being that more money was made selling Levis, picks, shovels, and hotel rooms to the gold diggers than from digging up gold from the earth" [This is the key paradigm shift. It's not about the internet or the gold; that's the vehicle. The gold is already there; the infrastructure is already in place. We just need to learn how to tap that resource...AS A TEAM]
p.70 Every layer of innovation gets built on the next. It is going to be driven by groups and individuals...now we are going to see the real human mosaic emerge p.80 Work flow platforms are enabling us to do for the service industry what Henry Ford did for manufacturing. This is not a trivial revolution. This is a major one.
p.251 Star for star, the basketball teams from places like Lithuania or Puerto Rico still don't rank well versus the Americans, but when they play as a team-when they collaborate better than we do-they are extremely competitive. If you want to grow and flourish in a flat world, you better learn how to change and align yourself with it p.355. "One of the core competencies of the business today is partnering" [Sir John Rose, chief executive of Rolls-Royce]
Seeing the Same Information With New Eyes
Network Marketing as a Tool for Leverage
This book left me positively vibrating! For the first time I really felt, no for the first time I really knew that I could make a difference as an individual. And I knew I had the right vehicle. I have knocked around network marketing for years, always passionately believing in the business model but never achieving any lasting success. Now the only thing that is holding you back from capitalizing on this tremendous time in our lives is the way we think. We are in a moment in time. Never has the world seen such a tool for leverage as the internet.
p.197 The perspective and predispositions that you carry around in your head are very important in shaping what you see and what you don't see. That explains why a lot of people missed the triple convergence. Their heads were completely somewhere else-even though it was happening right before their eyes
The Mind is Like a Parachute it Works Well When its Open
If there was ever a time to be a part of something bigger than you, NOW is the time. Whatever your perception is about the network marketing industry you need to open your mind to the birth of an entirely new industry that bears little resemblance to what your past experience may have been. If you avoided the industry like the plague you may want to rethink what is was that you didn't like.
Were pushy friends and family constantly flogging their opportunity? They had seen the "light" and you needed to see it too? What they saw was a solution, a very viable solution. Honestly, why would you do something and get paid once when you can get paid residual income for your effort? When people truly understand leverage they get flat out excited. However the method of getting that solution; making a list of family and friends and driving you crazy, cold calling, and mall crawling has gone the way of the dodo bird. It's no wonder people say, "I don't want to do that." I don't want to do that, either!
What if you could attract people to you? Have them contact you by email or via your web page to find out what the heck you were doing in this fascinating online world?
From Globalization 2.0 to Web 2.0
Thomas Friedman recommends being on a team. What team do I recommend? In my opinion Ann Sieg has almost single handedly put the network marketing industry on its ear. She has removed the negative and left the original pristine model in place. If you despise making a list, cold calling or mall crawling but love the idea of MLM then I have a solution for you. It matters not what company you are with; this is a way for all MLMers to work together. If Ann Sieg is not your cup of tea, then I would recommend the Renegade University. Mike Klingler launched his free university with a professional upgrade after reading Ann's book and overnight changed his old school teaching methods and began teaching Attraction Marketing. They are in completely different companies yet they can work together. I love it!
Leverage Explained
Author Michael Oliver says in his book How to sell Network Marketing without fear, anxiety or losing your friends! "p.158 Here's the thing that differentiates what you've got from most other businesses. You also have the rights to sell those rights to someone else who can do the same thing! That's like having a McDonald's franchise and having the rights to sell McDonald's franchises to others! That's unique, powerful and valuable.
Or said another way: From Robert Kiyosaki's book TheBusiness School: For People Who Like Helping People p.83-43 METCALF'S LAW value= # of users squared (exponential not arithmetical) 1 telephone= no value, 2X2-->4 3X3-->9 I like to call this business model private franchising or individual franchising.
Do you want more time, more money or more time & money? I don't care how much you love your job; there will come a day when you will want more time in your life. There are people that have money and no time, those that have time and no money and then there are those who have time &money. Which category do you fall in? Which one would you like to fall in? Bottom line: a large percentage of financially free people are network marketers.

Wow, this is a powerful hub! Newsweek came out with an article two or three months ago that echoed what you say here: if you don't know how to use the internet for your business "catch up or we'll catch you later." It's thrilling, frightening, and empowering all at the same time. I'll keep this article next to me as I burn the midnight oil to remind me that it's more than just me and now -- it's about my kids and the future!
