You know me. I'm the one at the beach sitting under the umbrella wearing a hat and a long-sleeved shirt. I'm the one who gets second degree burns mowing the lawn if I'm not careful. And careful usually means finding the highest SPF sunblock I can find. But there's always been a sacrifice involved with sunblock. It's either risk a sunburn or cancer by not wearing sunblock or risk acne breakouts with the usual sun skin care fare. I've always played it safe and chosen putting up with acne from greasy sunblock.
So it was with my usual skeptisicm that I purchased a new sunblock before vacation. After spending several minutes looking over the seemingly endless array of sunblocks, I finally settled on Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch sunblock with Helioplex. Below is my review which I hope helps you in your search for the best sunblock to suit your needs.
UVA and UVB Protection with Helioplex
It was once believed that UVB (ultraviolet B) rays were the most dangerous to the skin. But science has since discovered that UVA (ultraviolet A) rays are just as dangerous and possibly even more so since they are the same strength throughout the year whereas UVB rays are strongest in the summer.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer protects against both types of rays. It does this through the ingredient Helioplex which provides broad spectrum sun ray protection.
I used the highest SPF I could find at 100+. I was out in in the sun for several hours over three days and the only skin areas that got burned were those I forgot to cover, i.e. neck and parts of my upper arm. I usually burn in about 20-30 minutes without sunscreen.
Lightweight and Nonoily
This product lived up to its promise to be lightweight and nonoily. I put it on my face over makeup. It wasn't greasy and barely mussed my makeup at all.
With other sunscreens, my facial skin would usually have an acne breakout at the end of the day. I would even have to wash some products off as soon as I came in from the sun because they made my skin itch. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer didn't cause me to have any pimples or skin irritation at all.

Cost
I paid $11 at for a 3-ounce tube just before peak sun season. This may seem steep, but it was well worth it to me, and it's less expensive than what high-end cosmetic companies charge.
Highly Recommended
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends broad-spectrum sunblocks like this one as the best ones for sun protection.
As far as my experience, I can only speak for myself as everyone's skin type is different. But I highly recommend Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock for powerful, non-irritating and lightweight protection from the sun's harmful rays.
