New Dental Implants are a very attractive and durable alternative to dentures. A dental implant is an innovative artificial tooth and root replacement that resembles one or more missing teeth.
There are two types of dental implants, osseointegrated and fibrointegrated. The osseointegrated is more widely used. A Titanium screw is used where the bone and the implant is formed. The hole that is drilled into the jawbone for the screw is called an osteotomy.
Dental implant surgery is usually performed by general practice dentists as an outpatient under general anesthesia assuming several are done at one time. Local anesthesia is all that is needed for a single application.
Sometimes multiple surgeries are needed over a period of months when it involves bone grafting and heal time. It is critical to the success of the implant for the screw to properly graft to the bone. While the screw is grafting to the bone, the patient wears a temporary tooth to allow better chewing without disrupting the screw.
Smoking increases the failure rate proper grafting. It is therefore advised by many dentist that you give up smoking before considering implants.
The latest technology has enabled new dental implants to be virtually indistinguishable from one's natural teeth. They are the permanent solution to tooth decay since they are immune to cavities. However, dental implants are still susceptible to cracking and becoming loose. Therefore, they do still require proper dental care and routine dental check-ups.

I know how expensive implants can be - so I hope that my present teeth hold up until I accure enough through adsense.
Actually at the rate we're going on adsense I hope my teeth see me out.
Actually, I am going to have a new crown for one of my teeth next month and that is going to cost about 50% of the cost of an implant - but with a lot less fuss and procedure.
Good info! I'm thinking about doing this. Thanks!
Several years ago I had to have several permanent bridges put in my mouth. I wish I had had implants now. But at the time, it was a new technology and not covered by my dental insurance.
It's a thought but I just think it's gotta be more painful than dentures. One tooth at a time?

I too would like to have this done. But, the cost seems to be the biggest problem for all of us. I guess we're all going to have to figure out how to get filthy rich so we can afford it.
I wouldn't want to do one tooth at a time. Not when you can do the whole bottom plate with 5 screws.
Thanks to all of you for stopping by.
Paradise, with both procedures (dentures & implants) assuming that you're replacing all teeth, the teeth all have to be pulled so that part is equal. I can't see how putting in the screws can be any more painful that the removal of the teeth.
Lovely but expensive more's the pity.

I would love to have this done but unfortunately the price of having it done puts it outside of my reach that is unless adsense comes through I have nearly $2 in my account now so I am on my way to being able to afford it lol.
