I've been seeing the TV commercials for

Stouffer's Anytime Gourmet  kits and found them in the frozen foods section at my local Walmart Supercenter.

The website had a save $2.50 coupon on their website so I thought I give it a try.

Frozen foods have come a long way.

The STOUFFER' Brand traces its roots to 1922, when Abraham and Mahala Stouffer opened a small coffee shop in Cleveland, Ohio featuring delicious home-made food.

The couple's sons, Vernon and Gordon, later opened a chain of popular restaurants. At their first suburban restaurant, in the Shaker Square area of Cleveland, customers began asking for take-out versions of their favorite meals to enjoy with their loved ones at home. As demand grew, Vernon began freezing popular items and selling them at a retail outlet nearby.

By 1954, the family had founded the frozen food operation bearing its name. It is this family heritage that you bring home every time you put a STOUFFER'S meal in your
shopping cart.

I decided on the Chicken & Asparagus Carbonara.  The box describes the dish as "Chicken breasts seasoned with Italian-style spices and served in a smoky bacon cream sauce with linguine, peas, and asparagus."

When I opened the pouch containing the two boneless chicken breasts, I could really smell the seasoning.

The first step is to saute the chicken until it is done.  You then remove the chicken and set it aside under aluminum foil to keep it warm.

Next you heat up the sauce briefly and add the pasta and vegetable pouch.  Pretty simple really.  All in all, the total cooking time was about 15 minutes.

Kits Offered

Culinary Kits

  • Peppercorn - Crusted Steak with Port Wine Sauce
  • Tuscan - Style Herb Crusted Chicken with Balsamic Reduction
  • Wild Salmon Dijon in Puff Pastry

Saute Kits

  • Lemon Garlic Shrimp
  • Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo
  • Rosemary Chicken
  • Chicken & Asparagus Carbonara

The Good

I have to say that the flavor was fantastic.  The pieces of asparagus were a pretty nice size and very tender.  The seasoning on the chicken and the flavor of the sauce were spot on, not too mild and not too overpowering

The Bad

I did not feel that the kit came with enough sauce.  There was no additional sauce to pour on the chicken breasts or pasta.  The only other complaint that I might have is that there really wasn't enough food for a stand alone meal.  Next time, I will have to add a salad or something.
