New Change Is Coming

While researching some information about Samoa I ran across a press-release announcing the issue of a new 25-cent US quarter dollar by the US Mint. Having not heard of such I went to the official website of the United States Mint to get caught up on what I had missed.

What I found out was this new quarter is actually the third to be issued in 2009, of a set of six quarters.

New Reverse Design

And its just not six new quarters being issued. There are four new one-cent coins honoring the 200th birthday of President Lincoln, and the Native American One Dollar Coin. Replacing the eagle and the 17 stars on the reverse will be a Native American woman planting seeds in a field of corn, beans and squash and the inscriptions “United States of America and $1.” The new reverse design is titled “Spread of Three Sisters” Reverse designed & engraved by Norm Nemeth.

The new reverse design joins the familiar Sacagawea design issued every year since 2000.

And, if that's not enough change for you, there are the new “Presidential Dollars” for Presidents # 9 - 12 (four have been honored each year since 2007).

The US Mint has many other special-issues for the year 2009, including a Bicentennial Abraham Lincoln Dollar, and others in silver, gold, and platinum.

Like it or not, new change is coming.
