Sydney Harbour New Years's Eve 2007/8

Opening New Year 2008 - The changing of the guard

New Year! A crazy time when most boot (or sigh away) the old year and welcome the new with smiling, open arms and a hopeful glint in the eye. A crazy time when even the most introverted feel they must celebrate the eve of new journeys.

2007/8 - New Year's Eve

  • When Melbourne, Victoria, Australia floated through the hottest New Year's night on record.
  • When Sydney Harbour sparkled with "The Time of Our Lives".
  • When I joined neighbours on a moonlit walk to a secret lookout, high on a mountain, and watched the midnight blue and deep wine landscape of Port Philip Bay dance with exploding technicolour.

And a seering New Year's Day is a strange, endless numb moment. There is the gentle whirr of ceiling fans, a carless street and no birdsong.

Oh, this is just beautiful! I admit to knowing from the first picture that that was Sydney because of watching, ahem, "Finding Nemo". :)

A rich real estate lady built a megaMansion a mile away from us and had her OWN fireworks display, so we saw them. But your pictures are dazzling.
