Happy New Year!

  • Do you have a personal superstiton to share with us?At the stroke of twelve, on January 1, fireworks are let off, and everybody yells, "Happy New Year!" which is superstitiously super: it drives away all the evil spirts. Use it to drive away your personal demons too, you have held on to them too long!
  • If possible, start the New Year with all your debts paid off, and your cupdoards full: that will ensure wealth and fulfilment throughout the year. As an extension don't lend or borrow on the New Year. Give and accept gifts.
  • Take note of whoever crosses your threshold first; that person will bring the kind of luck he or she stands for.
  • Do a sample of the work you would like to have loads of, in the year. If you always wanted to write a novel, write a chapter.
  • Wear a new dress to increase the possibility of getting lots of new clothes. Believe me, I did that by accident, and it worked in 2007!
  • Ignore your sorrows and be of good cheer to set the trend for the coming year. Don't cry, don't get mad, spread peace and light!
  • Traditionally, the head of the family should open the door at the first chimes of the clock, to let in the new and send out the old. My wife's the head; will ask her to! Janus, the god of January and of doorways will surely bless her!
  • A baby born on Jan 1 will always be lucky. Sigh. You should have done something about this in March! But maybe not. A baby born on the 2nd will have a miserable life. It's a hit or miss situ!
  • Kiss the person you want to rekiss throughout the year. Don't miss, or you will spend 2008 in love with the door or whatever!
  • Dance in the open around a tree! Hold hands with neighbours for warmth now and ever!
  • Plant something on Jan 1st and the world will regain its greenery. Made that up, but I hope that will become a supertition and everybody will do it!

Do you have a personal superstiton to share with us? Then please do! Have a great New Year and make it your personal reponsibility that everyone around you enjoys it too! Cheers!

I enjoy reading this hub even though I´m not supersticious!

Thanks for the idea Kenny, I´m going to plant a tree this time hoping to start a tradition over here!

Thanks, Funride, I appreciate that! I'm not superstitious either, but am all for a greener planet!

If it becomes a tradition, that would be absolutely wonderful!

Great idea, planting something.  I'd rather call it a new tradition rather than superstition so maybe it will catch on, but I love it.

In Spain eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight and wearing Red underwear brings good luck.

In Peru, it is yellow underwear that suppose to bring good luck.

Happy New year!

Thank you, dear hubbers!

Greetings, Manohar!

Compu-smart, you are not unlucky if you are so cheerful, all the best!

Patty, you are a GREEN, great soul!

Thanks, Whitney, for still patiently reading this, much appreciated! And for the original request.

Thank you, Peter, for carrying it forward, lovingly.

Princessa, thanks for the bonus superstitions!

Happy New Year all, and plant a tree if you can!

Kenny! Great fun HUB! I've been collecting superstitions so I can add a couple to my list. Planting something would really be nice but the ground around here is frozen. I will save the thought and put out a new tree in the spring with your name on it, as it was your idea...(I'll use any excuse I can get to plant something new)

regards Zsuzsy

May this new year bring you and your family lots of luck and happiness, and may all your resolutions survive! Your resolutions won't be boring, Abhinaya; they would be intelligent ones, like your hubs! And its probably easier for us not to believe in superstions! :)

Have a great year, William, and thank you!

Well shucks I want to kiss you..after your wife of course...

However it will certainly be my Mother...and then the fresh sea air, the warmth of the fire in the fireplace. the love of God and the softness of my cat,I have too many trees now, of which in our last wind storm a huge one fell...lot's of good fire wood for next year tho.

Wishing you and your family the very best for the year to come.Much love, happiness, and laughter...you are becoming very famous here on the Hubs Kenny. I see your comments are very many...probably won't even see mine..I am so far behind..but I am here catch me if you can G-Ma :O)

ALL MY DEBTS PAID OFF!!!! I'm afraid I can't do that. But anyway, your hub is interesting.

Kenny Wordsmith profile image

Kenny Wordsmith  says:

Markuz, I, too, can't do that this time, so let's call that a superstition and cheerfully get on with the celebrations! :)

Happy New Year!

Very Good Hub, haven't seen something this....interesting like this for a long time. Other people's hubs including mine are boring, yours is the most fun and interesting article I have seen in a VERY long time. Have a great 2008, and I live in a condo so I can't plant a tree, if I do move in a house anytime soon, I will be sure to take your "idea" in to consideration. Have a great day!

Thanks, Warrior, you managed to make me feel quite proud of myself!

I joined your fanclub too; lemme go find out if your hubs are as boring as you say!

Great that the planting tree sentiment is alive with you, and if you can, pass it round.

Hope you have as good a year as your generous comments! Nice people deserve the best!
