If you're heading to New York City for the holidays, be sure to add a visit to the famed Rockefeller Center to your travel itinerary. Start at the top by visiting the Top of the Rock observation deck, which was recently reopened after 20 years. If you're someone who likes tours, Rockefeller Center has more than its share of guided tour options. On the one-hour Rockefeller Center tour, a historian will be your guide and you can use personal headsets for the tour. You'll hear about John D. Rockefeller's vision, the Art Deco design, the building's artwork, the statues of Prometheus and Atlas, Radio City Music Hall, and NBC studios. The tour takes place four times a day Monday through Saturday, and three times on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling (212) 664-7174, and are $12 for adults, and $10 for senior citizens and children 6 to 12. You can also take the NBC Studios tour, where you'll see the NBC Sharp History Theatre, used in NBC's early days in radio, and the network's studios, including "The Today Show", "NBC Nightly News", "Late Night with Conan O'Brien", and "Saturday Night Live". Tours leave from the NBC Experience Store, and are $18.50 for adults, and $15.50 for children and seniors. Take the combo tour of NBC Studios and Rockefeller Center, for $23.45. Get up early if you're visiting over the summer and early fall, and attend "The Today Show's" outdoor Concert Series performances. Viewing is on a first-come, first-serve basis outside the Today Show Studio, at 49th Street and Rockefeller Plaza. Almost all concerts are held on Fridays.

You can have lunch dinner at any of Rockefeller Center's 40 restaurants or fast-food establishments, ranging from McDonald's to the upscale Rainbow Room. If you can get a table, try the Rock Center Cafe, where you can dine al fresco when the weather is warm or watch the ice skaters doing their best on the famous Rockefeller Center Skating Rink during the winter months.

You can shop at Rockefeller Center as well, where you'll find more than 100 stores in the Plaza area and in an Underground Concourse at 30 Rock. Rock Center's popular stores include a huge, hands-on Nintendo World store, the fun NBC Experience Store, J. Crew, Swarovski, Nine West, Movado, Tumi and the Metropolitan Museum of Art Store.

Don't forget to squeeze the impressive Radio City Music Hall into your day at Rockefeller Center. If you're visiting during the holidays, be sure to reserve tickets to see the Christmas Spectacular followed by a spin on the Rockefeller Skating Rink and a look at the famous Christmas Tree.
