New facebook-Facebook users get ready to learn it all over again
76New look at new facebook homepage
Facebook unveils the new home page
Just when you feel like you've really gotten then hang of facebook's page a new facebook homepage has been unveiled! Facebook uploaded a new homepage on July 20th and within the next several weeks it will be the new face of...err...facebook.
What did facebook change?
The new facebook has a number of minor cosmetic change, but overall the usage will be very similar to the last version.
One will notice very quickly that most of the page shifted to the left. For example, the profile picture shifted to the left in place of the ads. Now the advertisements are on the right-hand side.
Another change is the prominence of the status bar. On the new facebook profile page the status bar is front and center. Rumor has it that this is to help compete with twitter's success.
Overall, facebook has made it a little more difficult to locate and use third party applications. These 3rd party applications are not as easy to find- they are under a tab on user's updated profiles.
Here's a look at facebook's new profile page setup:
Facebook News: Changes in Privacy Terms of Service
It has come to the attention of many lately that the facebook privacy terms of service have changed. Well, that's 100% correct.
The biggest change to facebook's TOS was that everything you post on facebook is the property of facebook, even when you delete your account. In other words, your pictures, videos, images all belong to facebook even if you delete your account. This has many people upset since those things should belong to their owners (us!), not facebook.
Facebook's privacy changes have stirred up much controversy.
UPDATE TO THEIR TERMS OF SERVICE AS OF 2/18/09:
Facebook recently announced that they have again changed their terms of service back to their original stance. In other words, you (not facebook) own your materials.
Facebook announced this change to their TOS on their blog.
If you want your voice to be heard regarding their terms of service, you can also join the facebook suggestions group.

UPDATE TO THEIR TERMS OF SERVICE AS OF 2/26/09:
The rules at facebook have changed again. After hearing the arguments of everyone against their revised TOS, and after they reverted back to the original TOS, they now have "Facebook Principles" found here. As a facebook user, you have the right to share your input into these principles.
They also have a revised "Statement of Rights and Responsibilities" found here. Again, you have the right to share your input.
YET ANOTHER NEW LOOK TO FACEBOOK AS OF 3/10/09:
Apparently unsatisfied with their "old" look of facebook (which was around since March),

How do I see this new facebook page?
Should you be interested in touring the new facebook page, simply type the following into your web browser:
www.new.facebook.com
Beware, though, that once you do that it will be your new facebook look from that point forward. To get back to the original you have to click on the link in the top right of the page that says "Back to the old facebook".
Checking out the new look at facebook comes with all the typical growing pains of a new web layout. It's quite difficult to find different things on the page such as photos, applications, etc.
This writer has found it interesting that the twitter application seems to no longer be working on the new facebook. One can only wonder if this is because facebook wants their status updates to REPLACE twitter...

I am not a big facbook fan. Stmble upon is much better and more interesting
Serinity, beware the changes are confusing! Oh and it still has tons of bugs. I keep getting an error page when trying to invite people to my "I don't like the new facebook layout" group! haha maybe it's because of their filters against such things...
Jacob, I didn't used to be, but now am a huge fan of facebook. I'm also a stumbleupon user, though!
Thanks for stopping by you two.
Even though I have an acount on facebook, I hardly visit. Only when someone adds me as a friend do I really go on.
I'll try and check it out soon.
I did notice a message on top of the Facebook page asking if I would like to try out the new one. Didn't try it yet - maybe later.
I am just learing Facebook and StumbleUpon, so it's all new to me.
Thanks for stopping by lisaG, rbnstr08 and belief 713.
@rbnstr08- brace yourself; facebook will force everyone to use the new layout within the next several weeks.
@belief- that's good! It's better to learn it once than to learn it twice and have to re-learn everything all over again!
Great Hub and great explanations on the new look of Facebook...looking forward to seeing more Hubs like this - I'm quite the web geek. :)
Thanks for reading Hup.
I think it's safe to say you're a web geek...especially in light of that avatar you've got!
I just tried it looks awesome and looks more spacy compared to the before. Nice :)
The new look seems easy enough to use, I think I prefer this new version.
I'm glad you two like it! Personally, I have found it a bit frustrating. One good thing about it, however, is that the profile pages of friends load more quickly because all of the applications are found through a different link, so it doesn't take 30 minutes to load them each individually when you visit their profile.
I don't like the changes :( I was used to the old facebook and it is a nuisance having to waste time learning and remembering where everything is... again!
Thank for this hub, it helped me find the "Back to the old facebook" link :)
hello im newbies here hope to gain more friends here:) and thanks for the facebook also its becoming more updated and i love twitter as well :)
I guess I joined it at a time when all the changes had already taken place so I didn't notice anything new. Saved me the trouble. Ha!
Yes, if you missed that whole thing you are lucky! The old version of facebook had a lot more options on the profile page. For example, you could have all your programs and added features all on your main profile page.
Now with the new facebook you have to click on "boxes" or the plus sign "+" on the profile page to get all those extras.
Some liked it the original way, others complained that the profile page would load too slowly. Eh.
I'm glad I missed all the drama when Facebook first had a major facelift. Since I've been active, there have only been a few minor adjustments. I still like the previous wall, though. I have no idea why they changed it. :P

This is really helpful. I didn't even know they were changing things, and now I'll be completely familiar with it. I think I like it better.
