Living in a new country

Moving to another country requires a lot of knowledge and planning. The more you research and prepare for your new destination, the easier it will be to adapt to new circumstances. There are many issues you need to consider before moving to another country. Most common ones are housing, employment, weather, health, travel and accessibility to social programs.

Try to find out if you need travel vaccine for your destination. Usually travelling abroad is unlike the one you are accustomed to. Everything will be different far from the place where you grew up. As soon as you arrive at your new destination, you will notice the weather may be different. You will also notice people think and speak different. They have different expectations. You have to be aware of the environment for mosquitoes and flies ot protect your skin. For all these reasons and harsh realities, one has to be fully prepared to settle into another country.

It is important to have some basic knowledge about the country you are going to settle; in respect to housing, employment, community contacts, weather and traveling. Of recent times, the internet is a good source for finding out this kind of information; for almost any place, before you leave your country. The main things you will need to understand for a new country are; where to find information once you arrive there.

If you know friends or family, it will be helpful, if they can provide you with encouragement and ideas. But you have to be on guard because these sources might not be reliable.

Once you have decided where you will stay when you arrive there, you will need to find employment. If you can find a job before you leave your country, it will be easier to settle in another country. But if you don’t, then you will have to check newspapers, public libraries or employment centers to find a job. You will need to have patience and strong faith.

You might have to adapt yourself to small living spaces if the rent is too expensive and you are on your own. You might not be able to have adequate living space, and may make you frustrated. This might take months or years depending on your employability and other factors. You will need the support of your community, friends and family to help you from feeling lonely.

The more you can learn about the city of country you plan to settle, the better you will be prepared to handle problems and obstacles. It will be useful to carry a cell phone to keep in touch with others until you know how to travel from home to work and back. Another factor to take into consideration is your health. The climate may be different from the one you were accustomed to. You will have to protect yourself, by wearing thick clothing, eat healthy foods, and use vitamins to protect your health.

Developed countries have many social programs to help newcomers adapt themselves to their new environment. You can get this information by calling the Ministry of Social Services or go to the public library, where they will assist you in locating the information you need. Once you pass the hurdle of knowing these basic things, it will be easier for you to chart yourself in the direction you want to go.

However, there will be social or economic factors that you will have to deal with, which you have not experience before. Examples like how the economy is moving, the kind of people you want to get involved with and the right decisions for your life.

Knowing these requirements, will enable you to research and plan to settle in your new country very carefully to avoid unknown problems, and have more faith and confidence in your future.
