On Shaky Ground - New Madrid Faultline Earthquake
57Illinois earthquake
Did you feel this morning's 5.4-magnitude Illinois earthquake??
At 4:30 a.m. Friday morning, that "all shook up" feeling in the
floor wasn't the King (Elvis) making a comeback, (although one
un-named Illinois woman reported seeing Elvis standing on
the corner of W.Cooper St. and N Broadway St.)
It was a genuine REAL LIFE earthquake folks!
Right in the midwest of the continental United States!
In fact it's an active geological area prone to earthquakes
every 300-500 years, the most recent major earthquake event
being 3 major shakers back in the winter of 1811-12 one of
which reportedly caused the Mississippi to run backwards,
but in nearby Bellmont there was an earthquake
registering 5.0 in 2002.

Elvis? on the corner" Rock and Roll? Tim....that is quite a different slant on the earthquake...thankfully a slant where we can breathe a bit of a sigh that people were not seriously hurt.
I didnt know about the timings of these events, so i sure learned something new..thanks for that
Tim:
Thankfully I have never been in an earthquake. Have had my share of Tornados and those were frightnig enough for me. Nature does have some extreme methods or re-balancing things no doubt. Sadly these events are all too soon forgotten till the next disaster occurs. Knowing these occure regularily should tell people they need to be more aware what they do while here on Earth, does have consequences.

Wow! Tim, glad was not there, we don't experience the kind of terrible things you have there in the States down under. Where I live anyway.Up north is a different story and they do have cyclones there.I do feel for the people that have to live through these efforts of nature.Would certainly like to Shake, Rattle and Roll with Elvis.Have learnt from you as usual.
Cheers
Holly

Tim earthquakes are very frightening.
We went through one last year and I personaly who suffers from low blood pressure thought now this is bad.
I was clinging to my office desk and everything was spinning around me. I was really worried.
However my phone started ringing and then I was told the reason.
Thank you Di
