Golf has turn out to be a very famous game over the last forty or so years. Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, and Arnold Palmer are all champions that have landed in the public perception. Courses like Augusta National, Pinehurst and the Blue Monster at Doral are all well-known to us.

Golf has turn out to be popular for various reasons. It's the opportunity to be outside, to get a good whole body exercises, network with friends or colleagues at a relaxed pace, and to play a sport that you can never perfect.

Your score, over time, be supposed to show improvement, and this brings you back to game time and time again.

Here is a very simple and basic lesson in golf for a person who has no idea about the game.

Golf is played on an eighteen-hole course.

Each hole has its "par", which is the number of tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short hits as you approach the green), and putts.

Par is based on the yardage and the hazards of the hole. Range of pars can be from 3 to 6.

If you hole the cup in five shots on a par five hole, you "made par." If you stroked the ball six times, it's called a bogie, if you sunk it in four, it's a birdie.

There are frequently "hazards" on all the holes. Water to be player over or beside, sand traps, and vegetation from trees to briar patches are intentionally located to make the hole harder. Beginners should try to find easier courses to start with.

Each individual keeps scores. The numbers of strokes are written down. After hole 18, each player adds up their scores. Lowest wins.

Taking this game seriously at first is a serious hazard. It takes a long time to obtain game expertise; even though the professionals make it look so simple.

Golf is a game much admired and much hated. In the beginning, the point is to have fun and enjoy learning while understanding that getting that score down to where you want it may be a lifetime ambition.
