These days, we demand more from our Portable Media Players. Remember when all we wanted them to do is just play music in the form of MP3s? Now they must play video as well. Some of them have the bonus of being photo viewers, FM tuners, voice recording, as well as e-book readers.

The T30 from Nextar certainly can do all that, and do it well. The screen is a 3.5 inch job that has all those functions. The main menus are an interesting job that gives all the options in the form of a circle. Navigating through these choices involves some buttons, and then hitting the enter switch.

I found that the T30 was incredibly similar to the Philips SA6145 4GB Go Portable, down to the navigation menu, amount of memory, and has almost the exact same features. The only thing that differs from it is that all the controls of the T30 are all along the sides, which gives the maximum amount of coverage for display.

So, let’s take it by the numbers on the features, starting with the audio function. The music played quite well, with some incredible clarity. When the individual song was playing, the unit showed the individual bars. The headphones that came with the unit were also very good, and they were made for the tiny headphone ports that you see on most cellular phone models.

The FM tuner worked extremely well, and I was able to tune in on certain stations that I didn’t think would work.

As for the video, it was clear, and with a good resolution. The same goes for the photo viewer. I tried out the audio recorder, and I found that it was easy to use with very clear playback. In other words, there are high marks on all of its features.

As far as memory is concerned, the T30 has 4GB of built-in memory. I believe that is good enough for about 8 hours of audio, or about 4 hours of video. There is also an SD card slot that supports to 2GB in case you want to put more on.

If you are looking for a Portable Media Player that can really do all for you, then you should probably look to Nextar’s T30. You should be able to get it now, and I have seen varying prices for it. The lowest I’ve seen is around $80, with the highest is up to $150.
