Nintendo DS Colors

So on April 5 the brand new, shiny, Nintendo DSi came out. It seems to have come with everything Einstein could think of. Two cameras (why not just one you could flip to the other side?), the new DSi shop, an integrated web browser, music player (why AAC instead of MP3?), larger screens, etc….

But just TWO COLORS?

Let’s rewind back a few years. It is now during the era of the original DS. Yes, the one with the cheap plastic buttons and overweight look. It originally had four colors: black, silver, pink and blue, enough colors to keep people satisfied.

Now, let’s fast forward another two years to March 2006. The DS Lite is released. Within the two years of being Nintendo’s dominate portable gaming console, five colors were released. They were Crimson Red/Black, Colbalt Blue/Black, Black, White, Pink, and solid black.

Now, nearly three years later, the Nintendo DSi is released. It is the most feature-packed DS to be released. It was excellent that Nintendo added the sound editor and player and the Internet Browser to compete ever better with the PSP. The DSi shop was a great addition, too. It even gives the DSi an edge to compete with Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch.

But one great flaw: a cheesy shade of blue or dull, solid black.

Now, if you really don’t like any of these colors, you can go to Japan and choose from five.

In all, the DSi is a decent upgrade from the DS Lite, and a major one from the original-with features. Now, if you don’t like the colors, (and you don’t want to go to Japan), I’d wait until Nintendo will most likely release them in the U.S. and North America.
