Your Cat Doesn't Love You

Reasons why we would all just be better off without cats
This is one of my hubs where I just have to get something off my chest for all the cat lovers who won't get something off their chest...their cat. I'm already beginning to rethink the title of this hub; 'No More Cat Owners' could be more appropriate. Actually it's a combination of both the cats and the owners. I apologize ahead of time for offending all the cats out there.
Reason #1: I've never awakened to a dog fight in the middle of the night. Why do cats decide to fight at 2 or 3 am when you're the most sound asleep? And that piercing meow-growl wakes me every time without fail because I begin dreaming that two baboons are mating outside my window. Then I disappointingly wake up to find it's only the neighbors' cats scrapping. They are really loud!
Reason #2: Cat owners are usually the most irresponsible and ignorant of all the pet owners out there. Every neighborhood I've ever lived in had roaming cats, and this proves there are idiots no matter where you live. Who gets a pet just to let them roam everywhere but in your own house or yard? Dogs take much more responsiblity and care to own.
Reason #3: Always cleaning and still dirty and infectious. If I spent most of my day in the shower, but was still able to pass on diseases, I would be in quarantine my whole life. But that's what cats are like. Even though they constantly clean themselves, they can give us staff infections, cat scratch fever, salmonella (catching birds), and toxoplasmosis. I've been bitten by a cat and quickly learned that cat bites can lead to some serious infections.
Reason #4: Why is my yard a cat litter box? One of my biggest pet peeves is laying bark or dirt in my yard and finding little clump piles in it the next day. Cats decided I worked in my yard to make their potty facilities more inviting. I've even had a neighbor cat pee on some of my outdoor furniture too.
Reason #5: All cats were born into royalty: Cats have the opposite of an inferiority complex, they have a superiority complex. They want love, petting, companionship, and food on their terms. They always have a snotty entitled attitude, and it seems inherent in all cats. They would take over the world if they could- genetically engineered or evloved/mutated into a higher intelligence brand of cat.
Reason #6: Stephen King's 'Pet Cemetary': If your'e still ok with owning a cat after watching or reading "Pet Cemetary', I'll refer back to reason #2; you're an ignorant cat owner. When you think of an evil animal, a cat automatically comes to mind. Their eyes and demeanor are wicked.
Reason #7: Cats enable those with committment issues. Cats can raise themselves and really don't need their owners. In other words, cats are ideal for people with committment issues; trouble committing to a relationship. We've all heard of the old maid and her cats or 'the cat lady' who never has a man around because she is content with her 43 cats pissing in every corner of her raggedy old house. That may only be a slight exaggeration because in reality this profile can pertain to other types of people too, such as my husband's 45 year old brother who has been married five times and now is single living with 2 cats- that will be 20 cats by the time he is 55.
I'm not the only one who thinks this way...there is science to back this up- check out http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090713/sc_livescience/catsdocontrolhumansstudyfinds

Ohh!!! you are gonna get castrated by the cat lovers!!!
men are dorks~ Yes I will probably hear it from some cat owners, but hopefully they're too busy cleaning the cat litter box to comment. I think hubpages is majority dog lovers anyway so they'll get my back...I hope...
Jmell~ Funny thing is I've taken care of two cats who weren't even mine. The first was when I was in h.s and our neighbors had 13 cats, but one of them apparently didn't get enough attention or food there so he came over to our place and I fed him and pet him a lot. That's why I have a dislike for some cat owners. The other cat I had originally belonged to a boyfriend who ulitmately had a committment issue. I kept the cat after he moved out, but the cat ran away a couple years later- guess she had a committment issue too.
I live in apartment complex that allows pets, but dogs *must* be walked on leashes and the owner *must* clean up after (there are bag dispensers strategically placed around the grassy areas). There are cats here too, but *not* allowed to roam. Litter box only. We do see the odd cat, but it will have wandered over from the fancy neighborhood one street over.
My kids and I were adopted by a Siamese many years ago who showed up on our doorstep as a starving kitten. A male who never went out at night. (What a concept...) If he could've figured out how to operate the can opener, he would've had no use for us except for the occassional rub between the ears!
People who dress up their cats, or have several that roam the neighborhood, drive me bonkers.
jamagenee~ Every neighborhood should enforce these rules for cats and dogs too. You reminded me when I was younger and trying to find an apartment, but none would accept my dog, but they did accept cats, which totally confuses me. Cats stink more and cause more problems than dogs.
I'm on your side- people who dress up any animal drive me bonkers. I have a chihuahua and it drives me nuts when people suggest outfits or sweaters for him.
Now look at that face on that picture, how could you resist? Well I like the darn beasts, but I can tell you that with an attitude like that you might get snatched by the next stray cat again. They tend to know who does not want anything to do with them and adopt them somehow. Funny stuff thanks.
As a cat owner and a previous dog owner, I can see both sides of the discussion. Yes, I know you'll object to my profile picture, but the cat pictured actually loves to be dressed up and has been a fashion model.
So, here goes.
Reason #1 could be prevented if all cat owners got their pets fixed, which I truly wish would happen. Unfortunately, a lot of the times it doesn't.
Reason #2: I totally agree with you on this one. I am dealing right now with a neighbor who keeps on getting pets without fixing them. She currently has one adult dog with 8 puppies and three cats (one with 5 kittens), and still has not made appointments to get any of them fixed. She claims that it costs too much. Having them have that many babies, then finding homes for all the babies? THAT costs too much. I know I'm going to probably end up fostering the kittens that were just born, considering that the momma cat and the other two adult cats come over to our porch for food anyway (and we've already fostered and placed two from previous litters).
Reason #3: This one is debatable by vets. Dog bites are just as infectious, and often have more tearing.
Reason #4: That goes back to stray and outside cats.
Reason #5 is SO true. I admit I'm owned by my cats.
Reason #6: I couldn't even watch more than the first five minutes of that movie. WAY too scary.
Reason #7: Cats need love. They also give unconditional love, on their terms. Yes, cats attach themselves to some people with commitment issues, but my theory is that this is because those people need to love something that doesn't require them to change. Fear of change is often what's behind fear of commitment, if you really think about it.
Anyway, great hub. :) (P.S. I would have used exclamation points a few places, but that key's not working at the moment. I really enjoyed reading this one.)
mireielle~ I admit that cats can be very cute, especially kittens who are endless hours of entertainment. I happen to be an animal lover and that's probably the only reason I let two cats adopt me in the past.
kt pdx~ I should go on record to state that I dislike irresponsible dog owners just as much as irresponsible cat owners. There just seems to be many more of the latter.
I don't know whether to admire or scoff a cat owner because they love something that doesn't love them as much.
I almost would expect dog bites to be more infectious because sometimes they eat their own poop and get in garbages, etc. but cats spend all day cleaning themselves and are still infectious even when they're not strays.
I love your comment to reason #7. Very good!
All right, I'll give you #3. Their nails are terrible. However, my dogs always bark at night because they, like, hear a mouse or something. My dogs are the ones that leave their poop everywhere, but my cats always use the litter box. And I think that owning a cat doesn't make you irresponsible... Cats are just crafty at escaping :)
glassvisage- Thanks for stopping by. First, I think it's great that you own dogs, but not great they poop everywhere- they need more 'responsible' training.
I've had two dogs for the past 6 years and after the first couple of weeks potty training, they don't poop other than a dirt area behind our house (where I don't smell it), which only needs cleaning maybe every couple of weeks, unlike cats who almost need cleaning every time they poop.
My point about cat owners being irresponsible is the training (and potty training) aspect of owning a dog. Dogs require more training, which cat owners will claim is a down side to having a dog because it takes responsibility to train a dog. I view it as being responsible if you can successfully spend the time and consistency to train a dog. Many irresponsible people are atrracted to owning cats because cats can basically (besides) feeding, take care of themselves. If you're like most owners, you let them roam outside (and out of your hair).
dude you dont even know. I find your perspective hilarious and biased.
hilarious- good. Biased- bad, but true.
I completely agree! It drives me nuts when people say that their cat loves them back. The cat loves the affection and attention you give it, but would probably be nibbling on your rigid corpse the next day if you simply dropped dead.
Jebus- Thanks for the comment.I couldn't have said it better myself. You just summed up my hub in one sentence.

LOL.....I'm guessing that you are NOT a cat owner?
