No More Traveling on Flights?
56Not Moving..
Is this the end?
With an ever growing economy currently heading in the wrong direction, the average American might ponder the idea of a limited traveling horizon in the next few years. The contributions of rising fuel prices as well as having the American dollar continue to rapidly lose its value has hurt the Airline industry tremendously. Beginning with United Airlines announced recently it would ground approximately 15 or more of its older, less fuel efficient, airplanes. Due to a roughly $1 billion potential increase in fuel costs in 2008. If one looks at the big picture it simply becomes as jet fuel prices increase then raising fares increase with the costs being reflected on the travelers. My opinion is that the industry needs to develop a plan and strategy to combat this very dangerous trend. While travelers try their best to be positive and upbeat the traveling industry looks quite unpromising and gloomy. The industry of Tourism and the overall economy would take major hits if the issue of no more flights or significantly less flights would to occur.
One of the strategies being used right now in order to conserve fuel are that many airlines are trying to squeeze more passengers onto fewer planes. Also some airlines are scheduling more direct flights and developing their flying attitude to take advantage of favorable weather conditions. In 2008 the price of jet fuel has risen roughly 60% this year already. It is a direct relationship between the cost of fuel and the damage to the airline industry. Every traveler thought that 2007 was a tough well my friends you haven't seen anything quite yet, in the fact that 2008 is predicted to be very difficult for the airline industry especially on its travelers. Despite the demand for people traveling many airlines will have to downsize due to avoiding bankruptcy and the possibly of an unprofitable year. It isn't a surprise that Asian traveling is on the rise and it is predicted that Asia will have the largest market by airline passengers in the next 18 years.
Today, March 31, 2008 in Honolulu - Aloha Airlines announced it will stop all passenger service after today thus putting an end to the Airline Company that serve Hawaii for more than 60 years. I won't get into great details on how the Airline put over 2000 employees out of a job. Aloha Airlines was founded in 1946 before filing for Bankruptcy this year. As chapter 11 (Bankruptcy is filed) it just reaffirms what hard times are ahead for the airline industry and its travelers in 2008. So sit back and relax because it is only going to get worse for those who travel by air.

Interesting coincidence is that today virgin annouced flights LA-Sydney withthe likely reduction in costs on one of the worlds most expensive / km remaining air routes! I do think older airlines with ageing fleets can't compete - virgin will be using new 777's

This all sounds like very good news from the aspect of environmental pollution. The fewer tons of CO2 (etc) deposited high in the atmosphere, the better!
