Design:
The Nokia 5220 is a slim phone, its just 108 x 43.5 x 10.5 mm in size and only weighs 78 grams. Because of its slim size and light weight, the phone is very easy to hold and keep in your pocket. The casing design isn't something you see everyday. It's a solid bar design but a little distorted but it adds more style! The details on the phone looks totally cool. The user interface and the wallpapers perfectly match the casing color theme.
It also feels a bit fragile as it's too light, but you'll get used to it fast. It looks cool on dark places as the lights really fire up which makes your jaw drop when you first see it... or not. :)
Buttons and keypads:
On the middle part of the phone is is it's four way navigation pad. A common navigation tool for Nokia phones but definitely kicks ass, lights up when used which looks totally cool. The keypads are designed nicely, it is ergonomic making it easy to use. There are Music Keys found on the side of the phone, cool and convenient. These keys also light and synch up when you play you songs on the player.
Screens and user interface:
The phone has a brilliant screen, a 2 Inch QVGA LCD 16.7 Million Color Screen in 320 x 240 pixels resolution. The screen displays clear and colorful pictures, perfect for a sleek mobile phone. Videos are really clear to see. You can see awesome color manipulations as you browse through the menus. This just shows how detailed and powerful the Nokia 5220's screen is.
Multimedia:
Like most music focused phone, the Nokia 5220 promises excellent music experience. It has an excellent Music Player has good audio output allowing you to listen to your favorite songs without losing quality.
- The music player has MP3, M4A, AAC, eAAC+ and WMA support. If Sony Ericsson boasts their MegaBass and Walkman player, Nokia uses their own Dedicated Audio Chip. The Audio Chip basically enhances audio output, music lovers will surely love this feature.

Calling capabilities:
Calling is much efficient and comfortable now with the Nokia 5220. It has a Tri Band network connectivity, certainly is enough to have good calls and keep having good signals. It can have GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 frequencies, switching between them is automatic so you wouldn't have to worry about it. Quite decent phone to bring on a trip.
Messaging capabilities:
For a teen, it's important to get in with the latest trend, know what's hip and not.
- The 5220 can receive and send SMS (Text Messaging) and MMS (Multimedia Messaging).
- It also has an Instant Messaging, Predictive Text, Audio Messaging, and Flash Messaging functionality to help you send messages fast when you really need it.
