Non-Blog Wordpress Themes
76Generally speaking WordPress is quite likely the most powerful and efficient online website development tool. Non-blog WordPress themes have come into greater demand for this exact reason. You can easily maintain a successful website with awesome features from the WordPress control panel and it's known powerful capabilities.
The problem is that many WordPress themes are based on the assumption that you are going to be using WordPress for a blog. I use a number of non-blog WordPress themes to maintain regular websites because of the instant features that come with WordPress that save months of development and maintenance time.
You can't tell the difference on the surface, and you certainly can't tell that my websites are running WordPress just by looking at them. They appear as regular websites. But the powerhouse is in the background control panel (WordPress).
How To Configure Non-Blog WordPress Themes
The key is not to look for WordPress themes that already look like a regular website design rather than a blog. Instead, find a themes that you like that you are willing to spend a few hours on tweaking and customising.
Every themes I have chosen has come with the regular blog features like RSS, categories, posts, blogroll, comments and other features. However, once I've finished with it, it looks like a regular professional or corporate website without all of those blog features.
Understand Theme Templates
Under the Appearance and Editor tab you will find a number of files ending with .php to edit. The header file generally represents the top of the page, the sidebar is the sidebar, and the comments file is, well, the comments section of the template. The styles file holds all the fonts and colours used in the themes.
You'll simply want to make a few themes changes to transform your blog into your ideal non-blog website. You might like to switch the orientation of the sidebar from right to left, remove the RSS button by simply searching for the RSS image in the template, and modify other features as you see fit.
The WordPress documentation explains the entire process of modifying code. However, if you still feel uncomfortable with this you may like to hire a professional coder who should be able to finish the entire process within a matter of hours. Go ahead and choose the theme that almost looks like a non-blog WordPress theme that you like, which only has a few areas that need changing. This will minimise any investment you make in modifying the themes template to suit your professional needs.
