What a deal!

where's the sale at?

My dad was talking to me last night about getting a nice camera for himself now that he has passed his exam for working with selling houses. Camera's, however are expensive. Not only that, they get outdated really fast! However, I just found something online that may be of some interest. I've never heard of the name brand Norcent, but it seems to be gaining popularity today. 10 megapixel camera, usually sells around $300 - $400 dollars, top notch is on sale at Buy.com for $80. Not a bad deal! But what's the catch? Well, apparently there isn't one. All the reviews I read seem to be good, and the camera has some great features:

  • 10.0 Mega pixel Digital CameraSlim, elegant design
  • Face Tracking Identifies faces within the frame and automatically adjusts for ideal focus and exposureAnti-Shake compensates for camera movement to deliver crisp, clean images
  • Captures high-resolution images up to 3648 x 27363.0" LTPS TFT LCD, scratch-resistant acrylic panel display3x optical zoom and 4x digital zoomMovie mode captures video clips with resolutions of 640 x 480, 320 x 240, and 160 x 120
  • Built-in flash with auto, red-eye reduction, always on, slow sync, forced on and forced off modes
  • Manual, daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent and custom white balance settings
  • 22 modes: Program, movie, voice REC, portrait, landscape, sunset, night scene, night scene portrait, text, back light, kids, snow, food, fireworks, building, quickmode, sport, soft skin, candle, party, building, soft flowing water

Well, I'm hoping it's worth the money, and my dad like's it. :) I'll have to print out some step by step instructions on using it so he gets the hang of it, (my dad isn't too tech savvy) although people that have bought it say it's fairly easy to use. The memory isn't bad, 16MB but it's a good investment to get a few more memory cards. You can never take enough pictures! If your into photography, I'd reccommend taking a look. Although is your one that's a hardcore photographer, you'd probably want to stick with the name brands like Nikon, Canon etc. Still, it's a decent price ( well, to me it is for a 10MP, I paid $700 for a 7MP 3 yrs ago). The LCD display is by far the best feature, theres nothing worse than having to zoom in on something after you've taken the picture to see what it looks like. The lense is okay, I would have expected slightly better with the output it has. I phoned Best Buy and spoke to one of the guys in their camera department, seems like this baby is on par with the Sony Cybershot. Guess we will see if it lives up to the hype when it arrives in the mail :)

I spoke to a guy at Best Buy and he says it's good quality, like a Sony Cybershot. Very clear and crisp. If you go into a store you could take a look, or look around ebay as some of the people selling it have example pics :) Seems like a good deal

Hmmm.... I have never heard of Norcent cameras before. I just might have to check them out. I have always been a big fan of Cannon.

Whilre I thank you for your feedback, isn't a review for after one recieves the camera and tries out all of it's features?

...Still looking for a review. Is the low price ($80) because it's Norcent? Else is it other quality issues? We already know that noise is typically a prooblem in low light/no flash, Yet, compared to something like the Canon SD1000 class cam, how does this do?

There has been some bad press on this camera due to the lack of availability of replacement batteries except through Norcent. The Konica Minolta NP-900 Li-Ion battery will fit but has only 600mAh of power vs the Norcent P/N VG037612070002 OEM battery. It is avail from bestbatt.com.
