North Georgia Mountian Life
68Life In White County Georgia
My husband and I made a move from Florida to the mountians in N. Georgia Feb. of 2007. Leaving behind well paying jobs, friends & family. Our children grown and on there own, it was time for us. Time for a more peaceful way of life. Having grown up myself in the mountians of upstate NY, I very much missed that way of life, living in Florida.
Florida is great for many I am sure. But we grew tired of heavy traffic, over population, high taxes, high utility bills, and crime. Our home had been broken into 3 times, and another attempt that fell through, we think because of a pit bull mix we adopted after the other break-ins.
Our utility bills have been cut in half. We have more land here, and pay half the amount in property taxes as opposed to Florida. Our home sits off the main road, in the country. We sit on the back deck, or front porch, watching wild rabbits eat and play in the yard, Doe with there fawns eating, and romping. In the evening we can often hear coyotes howling & yipping in the distance. We do have black bear, I have not seen any yet, but have seen a bob cat.
This is however not an area for anyone to live in if they don't like a long commute for a job. We are 89 miles from Atlanta, and 30 miles from Gainsville, GA. Jobs in the immediate area are next to none. And most here are seasonal only. For us the pros out weigh the cons.
We are 14 miles from the small community of Helen, GA. Helen is a huge touriest attraction. People from all over the world enjoy visiting this Alpine Village. During there Oktoberfest in the fall it is not unuseual for them to see 100,000 visitors. Just outside of Helen is the gorgeous Anna Ruby Falls one can hike to. There is white water raffting on the Chattahoochee River, something the intire family can take part in. Enjoy the best of German food, beer, and music. There is something here for everyone, including the children. Check out my links at the bottom for more information.

Like your site mrbrent. Nice pictures, and great information.
Currently live in Florida wanting to move to North Ga. Thanks for the info! I visit often and love the area. So beautiful and peaceful.
Thank you for the visit Darlene. Yes it is beautiful and peaceful here. Exactly why we are here instead of Florida. We would visit here every year for a week. Each time it was harder for us on returning to Florida. Our last trip back to Florida was in Oct. 2007. We contacted a realty company here in Cleveland. He found a home we liked. We listed our home in Florida, packed, and we were all moved into our new home by Feb. 2008.
