Noise canceling headphones are perhaps one of the great inventions of the 20^th century :) just kidding... but seriously... they are WONDERFUL! Many people wonder how in the world these peaceful phones of magic do their work. Well let me explain.

Noise canceling headphones utilize a technology called “active noise control”. Basically what this means is that the put a small microphone near the ear that picks up extra noise coming in. The using some electronic circuitry they generate a sound wave that is its polar opposite to cancel out the outside noise. This causes what is called, “destructive interference” and that cancels out unwanted noise within the headphones space. Wala!

The noise canceling headphone was first introduced by Bose after Amar Bose, the companies namesake, was flying on a plan and noticed how unpleasant it was trying to listen to something with all the external noise of the airplane coming into the headphones space. After a decade of research and development Bose finally released the first noise canceling headphones int eh late 1980's.

He was even able to provide noise canceling headphones for the pilots, Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager making the very first around the world flight.

These days many airlines provide noise canceling headphones for their first class and business class customers as a luxury. And what a luxury it is to be able to listen in peace in the midst of jet engines.

Noise canceling headphones have many agreeable benefits. Just think how nice it would be to watch a movie in peace and quiet while others around you are chatting or while a noisy train passes. In our busy world all too often noise from the outside world sneaks into our daily lives and causes a undue amount of extra sound that we just acclimatize too. Noise canceling headphones allow us to go on a noise fast while we listen to the purity of whatever it is we want to listen too:)
