Last Blog About Shoes (for awhile, anyway...)

Modern shoes have so many different styles and shapes and sizes it's almost impossible to speak about each one separately. After the Victorian era, sneakers became popular, especially once Charles Goodyear invented vulcanized rubber-- the rubber used for tires and, yes, for Keds and Converse. Rubber became the main ingredient for the soles of shoes, making shoes more flexible and more comfortable.

I think we know the rest. Sneakers, army boots for the soldiers in both World Wars, kitten heels and Mary Janes for women, and now, we can go to DSW in most major cities (I have a membership...) and choose from hundreds, almost thousands of different styles. Many of the shoes do have historical influences, such as the kitten heel, which was quite popular during the 50's which are even now cute to wear with a skirt or to dress up a pair of jeans.

Along with clothes, it's interesting to see how shoes have evolved through the ages. Feet definitely have had to go through a lot of blisters! It's nice these days to have Dr Scholl's to help us out...Happy walking, ladies!
