In 2000 a movie came out that starred Vin Diesel called Pitch Black. His name was Riddick and he had the supernatural power of night vision. This was emphasized by his eyes which when you looked into them seemed mirrored. This type of contact lens is sold today to the general public as NOVELTY CONTACT LENSES. Of course the novelty line of contact lenses covers a wide variety of lenses including vampire lens, sclera, glow in the dark, gothic and fun lenses that can make any Halloween costume extra special.

Novelty contact lenses are designed to induce looks of surprise and horror from passersby. At one point these lenses were only available to film and theatrical companies for use in movies and plays. In the past few years they have not only released them to the public for purchase but have also added many different designs to the mix. These lines include scary, wacky, crazy and wild designs that makes wearing them as fun as those who see them. Many bands will wear these lenses for the special effects they offer the crowd.

Buying novelty contact lenses is easy. You can find them at novelty shops, eye care specialists and online retailers such as Lensmart. Your eyes must be assessed by a professional before many of these retailers will sell you the lenses but once you have a prescription you can purchase them and wear them as instructed. Online retailers like Lensmart require measurements of your eyes to ensure proper fit which is another reason you must have a prescription.

Halloween is the best time to wear this type of contacts. They will enhance your costume and offer you the special FX that you need to make your outfit extra scary. Vampire lenses come in red, blue and green colors but can also include black sclera lenses and glow in the dark lenses. The black sclera lenses cover the entire surface of the eye to provide either a black out effect. The sclera black out or white out lenses can also be used as a gothic accessory. Each different style of lens gives different special effects to your eyes as well as costumes. You can win every contest you enter with these theatrical contact lenses as part of your accessories.

The Riddick contacts provide UV protection and are great for a surprise from your friends or family but don’t neglect to consider some of the more wacky, wild and crazy lenses as well. They too can make for a shocking appearance or just to get the stares from passersby. When you are considering making a purchase of this type for either theatrical or cosmetic uses, you should consider what purpose you will use them for and how often you will wear them. You will be amazed at the horror on many people’s faces they will induce as well as the FX they will lend your costume. Make your purchase wisely and make sure to care for your cosmetic lenses as you would normal corrective contact lenses.
