Yahoo and Yahoo Telemundo are currently collecting items for a digital time capsule. The contents will be projected on to the 216-foot Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan, Mexico, then beamed by laser into space and finally stored on digital media which will be sealed and locked away by Yahoo and not opened until its 25 anniversary in the year 2020. Copies of the digital media will also be given to the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings archives and the National Institute of Anthropology and History in Mexico City.

People from around the world are invited to submit contributions for the time capsule. Contributions can be text (in any language), graphics, photos, video or audio and can range from original creations to copies of a favorite URL or other thing. However, contributions have to fall within one of the following categories - Love, Faith, Sorrow, Past, Hope, Anger, Fun, Beauty, Now, You.

As of this writing (Friday evening October 13, 2006) over 15,000 items have been submitted since the collection process started on October 10th. Over a third of these are from the U.S.A. and Mexico, however, there are at least 1 or 2 entries or more from numerous other nations. A clock on the site shows the number of days, hours, minutes and seconds left until the November 8, 2006 deadline for submissions. Individuals can visit the site and view the submissions to date. Visitors can scroll through the submissions by category (the ten listed above), by location ofcontributor , by age group of contributor and gender. One can also search for items within the above categories as well as an Extra category containing thingslike Yahoo ID. Those desiring to contribute have to log into Yahoo or register for a free Yahoo account.

So, if you would like to share a part of yourself with this world and any other worlds that intercept the laser beam containing the contents of the capsule, use the link below to log on and join Yahoo's posterity party.
