Nudes and Prudes Review

I'm looking for an answer here people- why are most Americans prudes? Earlier in my HubPage's career I wrote an article called Nipples, Penises, Pubic Hair or Art. The hub was an expressive commentary, on my own personal feelings and interpretations about nudity, especially when presented in the form of art. As I suspected it would be, the hub was met with very little resistance, and has been a mild success. However, as I was thumbing through some old news articles I had saved and bookmarked on my computer, I ran across several news stories that addressed this very subject matter, in a variety of different perspectives.

Matter of fact, the above picture featured is an advertisement that was once ran by a local Boston training center called, Equinox. Needless to say, the Roman Catholic Church of Boston didn't find this picture as amusing as either you or I would. It is a known fact that they actually raised a real stink about it. Which leaves me asking, how did American's get to be such prudes? I don't quite understand it.

Not all that long ago, Generals in the US Military allowed serviceman to have their prostitutes traveled with them. How do you think prostitutes got the nickname, "Hooker?" Many of America's founding fathers had extramarital affairs, and men like Benjamin Franklin had children out of wedlock. That goes without mentioning, his hundred or so mistresses through out his lifetime. Nowadays, if a political figure head decides to expand his sexual horizons outside the wifey perimeters- he is forced to give up "public" service by the American populace. What business is it of ours who f@@ks who, and when and where it happened? As for myself, I really do not think that a persons sex life should be a qualification measure on whether or not someone, is fit to be in office. It's really none of the Americans people's business.

It appears with the harmful predators existing in the world today, like cancer, Parkinson's, MS, and so on....... that the American populace would have bigger fish to fry other than the ones dealing with sex or nudity. With that being said, rather than making nudity and sex such a dirty little secret, I'm asking everyone who read this to take a good, long look at all the disruptions, and complications, ineffective American prudences are creating.

Good comentary RK. We Americans have always said one thing and done another. We were raised with the mantra "do as I say, not as I do." The world has changed but our ideologies have not. Mass media and social media have put it in our faces at an exponential rate since the late 80's and we are still perplexed as to what is right and what is taboo. I don't think its going away anytime soon either. I don't think we will ever be as open minded as Europe, but we can talk the talk.

Last time I remarked on one of your hubs you "raked me over the coals," so I will just say, "Awesome picture. Cracks me up."

Haha Love the picture. We are a nation of hypocrites you know. The church is pretty powerful stuff. Nice job of telling the way it is.

If I'm not mistaken RB, you attacked my character first. However, besides that simple little fact that you chose to leave out, glad you stopped by.

Thanks everyone for reading this hub. I've made this picture my new desktop. I think it rocks. Glad to read that other people find humor in it too.

I think a lot of it can be blamed on the populist press and TV. It's easier to produce garbage than real journalism, and if that's what people are fed, eventually they acquire a taste for it. Good picture!

The picture is great. I don't see what the problem with it is. Did no one realize that nuns had legs under those habits? I do think though that whilst politicians are twatting on about family values, the sanctity of marriage etc etc then they should not be having affairs. They must practice what they preach. But look at how the Italians love their Silvio Berlusconi who has many times behaved in a way that could be considered quite outrageous so I take your point about Americans being prudish. Nice hub anyway.

Most of the world outside US is still laughing about Clinton's sexcapades with that chunky dame and the media frenzy and the trillions of commentary it generated, never mind that impeachment thing. Like, what the hell if this ain't a private matter.

Then again, I think one factor that may bend public opinion in regards to pubic servants, oh, sorry, I meant PUBLIC servants and sexcapades is that if they are being unfaithful to their wifes/husbands, then what else are they lying about?

But to make a long story short, I don't understand the American prudish factor either :-) Cool hub.

RK I said you were being "harsh" regarding a woman's insecurity. I wouldn't begin to suppose anything about your character. Friends?

This is because we judge people but at the same time, we forget ourselves! It's a duplicity in its ugliest faces...

They're not just prudes, they have their priorities backwards too. It's ok to see someone get their throat slit in a movie but you can't look at a woman's breast. One is rated PG and the other is rated R or X.

Seems to me "they" have a sick need to worm their way into your life with some form of violation. 500 years ago they did it through condemning sex. Now they force us to fill out a 1040!

Fun and interesting hub RK :)

Regarding the adultery by a politician I think the idea is this: If a man would cheat the person he loves the most, his most intimate person on earth, and crush her soul and tear her heart to pieces in public like a bug under his foot simply for some pussy; he might not be completely trustworthy; that he might not think twice about screwing us over—the total strangers that we are. I think that's kind of the gist of it. :)

I hear what you're saying. However, one only needs to look at Ben Franklin to know and fully understand how that measure of thinking might be wrong. Thanks for commenting and stopping by.

I really enjoyed your Baroque piece, so much so I decided to extend on your hub and cover some to architectural masterpieces as well. Thank you for the inspiration. I will link my hub with yours, so my viewing audience will have the same opportunity as I in benefiting from that wonderfully written hub.

I believe most Americans reject moral relativism, as professed by the Europeans...Accountability and Honor still rank high with most folks...The only thing we have of any lasting legacy is our reputations in general, and our integrity in particular...

Very interesting and speculative Hub that is thought-provoking and well written...Thank you, Larry
