NutriSystem Reviewed
55How Come I examined NutriSystem
Recently a weight loss clieny asked for a commercial diet. Now, typically I don't recommend commeicial diets to clients but suggest that people eat more of good foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, cold water fish, non-fat yogurt, and plenty of plain water.
I believe when you eat lots of good bulky high fiber foods, you will automatically eat less junk foods. I always suggest that we eat slowly to allow our brain time to work it's normal satisfaction circuits anf tell us that we are full. I of course suggest that we make sure we do not increase our blood glucose too much by having a low glycemic index diet.
However, some people do not have the disciplin to make sure they always eat good foods in right portions and this client told me that she had to lose enough weight by the summer so that she could fit in a certain dress for her duaghter's wedding.
So I examined the science, ingrediaents and cost of various commercial diet programs like NutriSystem, Jenny Craig, LA Weight Loss.
Why I selected NutriSystem
- A freind was using NutriSystem and she was satisfied and had lost the weight she desired and manged to then keep it off by using NutriSystem.
- I read the various ingredients and they made sense.
- One potential problem was that the non-frozen preserved food was a bit too salty but still not as salty as eating many other foods. Also NutriSystem had just added frozen menu with less salt.
- The food had a reasonable amount of fiber and given the suggested fruits and vegtables had enough fiber although I personally eat a very high fiber diet.
- The program had the lowest overal cost of any diet program.
- Most importantly the diet was based on a low glycemic index principle.

What did this selection do for me
After telling my client that I recommended NutriSystem for her, I started to concentrate on eating very low glycemic index foods and if I was to eat high glycmic index foods (those whose carbohydrates get absorbed into blood rapidly) I would first eat the low glycemic index portion of the food and only later the bad high glycemic index carbohydrates. This in effect lowers the overall glycemic index of the meal.
Anyway, the outcome of lowering the glycemic index of what I ate is that I now weight six pounds less than I did four weeks ago and my waist size if the same as it was forty years ago.
