Nutritional Vitamin Fiber Supplement
65A woman asked, “Is there a good nutritional vitamin and fiber supplement?”
Now, before I reveal what I told that person let me qualify the answer by giving you some background information that, when it’s all said and done, will give YOU a thorough understanding of why I answered this way.
It all relates back to having a solid, bedrock, fundamental understanding of nutrition and our bodies. And it doesn’t hurt to have a little common sense sprinkled on top either.
First of all…a little background info:
This particular question came from a woman who was just over 20 years old. She consumed a ‘diet’ that was not only a starvation-type diet…but…what she did eat was nearly 100% processed. She was also a recovering bulimic.
And just to top things off, she admitted to frequent use of over-the-counter stimulant laxatives in order to have a bowel movement.
And now she wants a nutritional vitamin fiber supplement?
You see…as much as I hate to admit it, this is the case far more often then you would believe. People who simply abuse their God-given bodies. Bodies which are designed to operate optimally IF you give them what they need.
This girl was doing nothing even close to that.
So I informed her in my very tactful way, “Yes, there are some good nutritional vitamin fiber supplements. But they don’t hold a candle to what Mother Nature can give you…and…even if you took 10 a day they ain’t gonna help YOU one iota!”
Now, she was a bit taken back by my response. But, my question to you is this:
”Would I have done her any justice at all by just pacifying the situation and recommending a nutritional vitamin and fiber supplement that we had on the shelf and make a few bucks off her?”
You see, in my opinion, far too many people completely miss the boat when it comes to their health. And particularly when it comes to their gastrointestinal health.
Don’t believe me?
Consider this: Let’s say you drink a lot of water in a day. Say a gallon or so. What happens? That’s right…you make at least a half dozen trips to the bathroom to relieve yourself and your full bladder. Now my question to you is this:
How come your intestines are any different?
They’re not!
In fact, any good gastroenterologist will tell you that if you, like other people, eat 3 meals a day you should be going to the bathroom at least once a day, minimum.
In fact, two or even three times a day is even better.
Why?
Your intestines are no different than your bladder. Part of their job is to get rid of waste material. They are like a cities sewer system, if you will. When a blockage is allowed to go untreated in a city you’ve got one heck of a mess. It’s the same thing when it comes to your body.
You have to get rid of the waste. Not only that, look at how many preservatives are in the food most of us eat. And look at all the other chemicals that we eat on a daily basis. So when that waste just sits there in your intestines it is essentially leaching into your system.
So, when people say they feel like crap, maybe they really mean it!
You have no idea how many people come to me and tell me that they don’t feel good. And then when I ask them how many times they go to the bathroom a day they look at me like I’m from Mars and say, “I don’t go every day! That’s disgusting. I go every 3 or 4 days.”
Some only go once a week!
And the worst part is…
“They not only think this is normal…but…that it’s healthy!
Really, I’m not making this stuff up. And then the crazy part is they still can’t figure out why they don’t feel well? Hhhhmmmmm…
And then when it comes time to ‘fix’ the problem they take the traditional American route and look for a nutritional vitamin fiber supplement.
Like I said above, there are some good ones. But I don’t really recommend them. Because if you do what your body wants…
“You won’t need one!”
That’s why I have
to reiterate: instead of treating the
symptoms you should be treating the cause.
Which in the vast majority of cases is…
Your Diet
Don’t believe
me? Try this little experiment on for
size.
Now, before I go into the details of the experiment itself I need to forewarn you: For many, this ‘experiment’ will not be easy or comfortable. But, if you follow it (religiously) for 1 solid month I can virtually guarantee you will not only feel more ‘regular’…but…you will feel ten times better.
Shameless over promising?
Not at all.
In fact. I’m speaking from experience…personal experience. And, not only that, I’ve had superb results using this little ‘experiment’ with everyone from frustrated family members to close friends to patients.
Well, let me rephrase that…I’ve had success with people who’ve actually followed the program and finished it. Which is why I warned you earlier that it is effective and it is simple…but…it ain’t easy!
It’s not easy to drive pass the fast-food joint when, after all, it is just a couple of minutes and it’s oh so easy. And those cookies taste so good. I’ll just have one or two. And, one soda won’t really do that much harm. And on and on with the excuses.
Now, I’m not saying you should never do any of these things. Quite the opposite. I’m a firm believer in ‘cheating’ once in a while. Not only to keep yourself sane…but…to remind yourself how good you feel when you eat better.
But, on this program, in the beginning anyways…no cheating.
So…you’ve been warned. If you’re willing to go forward with it--I’m going to give it to you. What’s that? You say you DO want to go forward with it? You say you want to start feeling better. OK, you asked for it.
Here is Dr. Curt’s specially-designed, never before seen, and cleverly named…
Avoiding the Nutritional Vitamin Fiber Supplement Experiment
I know. I know.
Pretty good, huh?
Now, for the sake of brevity I’m only going to give you a sampling of the first step. I’m not going to go into detail…because I don’t really need to right now. What I need to do for you is to take small, baby steps.
Remember, before you run you have to walk and before that you have to crawl.
Let’s start crawling.
Step numero uno…
For the next month solid you should only eat foods that are 100% natural…no exceptions
Listen
buckwheat.
Some people always want to
whine and know why it has to be so hard.
And trust me, this will be hard in the beginning.
But also trust me on this: Once you train your body to start eating
this
way you won’t go back.
How long does this training take. I generally require at least three weeks (21 days). This is how long science has shown that it takes for a person to form a ‘habit’. Wouldn’t you rather form a habit that will help your body?
So, from this point forward: No Whining.
Now…just so we’re clear on the ground rules let me give you a rule of thumb that should help you ascertain whether it is truly…natural: if it has been altered by man in any way shape or form from it’s original state…it ain’t natural. So don’t eat it.
The list of outlawed foods includes, but is not limited to: no cereals, processed flours or grains, no ‘fruit juices’, no soda’s or carbonated beverages of any kind, no donuts, no buns, no hot dogs, no instant pudding, no chips, crackers or any of the like.
In short…if it has an extended shelf life or doesn’t require keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t spoil…don’t eat it.
Personally, unless it comes from ‘Mother Nature’ herself I try to avoid it. However, I’m at the point in my eating style where my weight is a very healthy, comfortable and stable one…so sometimes I splurge.
You shouldn’t. Not if you’re starting out anyways.
This is a critical period where you are not only changing your eating style but your body is adapting to the new eating style also. But don’t fret. Once your body recognizes the natural fuel that you are feeding it…you won’t go back to eating any other way. Trust me, this is experience speaking.
So, stick with natural fruits and veggies (I don’t get too picky about which ones at this point…although some are better than others). Keep the colors varied and eat as much as you can each day. Supplement this with lean meats (venison, organic beef, pheasant, organic chicken), nuts (almonds and pecans are my favorite), some dairy products (yogurt and small amounts of whole, unpasteurized milk if you can-otherwise plain whole milk is fine).
Oh, by the way, one other thing. You need to drink a lot of water.
Yah, yah, I know. You say you do. I can almost guarantee you that you don’t. Not as much as you think anyways.
My goal? One gallon a day minimum.
And for those of you who say you don’t need to drink that much water I’ll chime in on that in a later issue.
The fact of the matter is that you do need water. And lot’s of it. And I don’t need any studies to back this one up. I just need common sense.
Anyways, this went a heck of a lot longer than I planned on it to. So I’m going to cut it off before this turns into some kind of thesis paper.
The moral of the story. Eat natural everyday to start with. Drink copious (read: at least one gallon) amounts of water each day. If you do you won’t need any kind of stinkin' nutritional vitamin or fiber supplement or any other kind of miracle pill to help your body do what it wants to do…it just needs the tools to do it.
