Comment from one of my readers - Carolyn

The Nutro website now has a form to complete regarding pet illness in the "Contact Us" section. I was not able to send my email and opted to call the 1-800 number. There is not a problem with their website, just an overload.

I was speaking to a fellow there, related my concerns with the dry dog food, and told to do the following:

1. send a sample of the food ( I only have a small ziploc bag, but will send only a portion of what I have)

2. also send correspondence, relating to symptoms, vet visits, diagnosis, treatment etc.

3. include vet bills, upc codes (very important apparently), diagnostic results, or anything else relevant.

4. request a followup from Nutro pending food test results.

Send all info to : Nutro Product Incorporated, Customer Service Department, 445 Wilson Way, City of Industry, CA. USA 91744.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. PLEASE, SPEAK FOR THOSE WHO CAN'T ....YOUR BEST FRIEND, YOUR CONFIDANT, THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU UNCONDITIONALLY

I have been feeding my jack Russell Nutro dry (lite)lamb/rice... Of late (past week or so) he has refused to eat it, or has let it sit almost aa day or more; then eaten just a little. I figure he knows something I don't so I have begun a home made recipe of rice and lamb with mixed vegetables..He eats that heartily.. What is this telling me.... of course now that he's enjoying human food, he'll never want to go back to kibble..

I have been using Nutro dog/cat food (both dry and canned) and treats for more than 15 years. I continue to feed it to my 4 dogs and 9 cats believing that Nutro is still the best product you can buy. Those who choose to make their own pet food should be careful that they are including all the vitamin, minerals, etc. that dogs and cats need to remain healthy. One thing especially needed by cats is Taurine.

I find it interesting that the news does not name the companies to which the pet deaths have been attributed to. Most of the companies are recalling their food as a precaution, not because any of the pets using their food have gotten sick or died.

You might stop and think about what you are putting in the food you make for your pets yourself because my understanding is that the recalled food was fed to animals that we eat ourselves!

The worst part is that with the dead pets (dogs and cats) this company is accused of using in their pet food could cause another recall. I'm talking about the dogs and cat that have died from the tainted food and then were added into yet another batch of pet food for the next living dog or cat to eat.

Sad deal.

Susan you hit the nail on the head. I can honestly see it coming.....In the news..."dead animals from tainted pet food do not pose a threat, the amount of melamine is minimal. We will continue to process the dead animals for future pet food as we deem it safe! " What idiots! On another note. I run a rescue and I had donated food (that I never used) this food was on the recall list. I took to a feed mill thinking they could return it with other tainted pet food. They told me to put in to their dumpster. I threw a fit, got the manager and proceeded to explain to them how stupid that was and that this and all other poisoned food belonged disposed of properly due to the hazard of other animals and again cross contamination. I don't know if the feed mill was telling me the truth when they told me that they did have a truck coming to pick up the tainted food. What the heck are they doing with it after that? Like you said this will get worse...

I adopted a rescued Corgidor the end of February with advise to feed her Nutro foods.

She ate a case and a half mixed with other meat and vegetables until the recall.

I truly think it upset her stomach and she would not touch it "plain". Luckily I was feeding her other foods. I heard that the Adult Lamb and Rice Dry Food had a

problem too but Petco says no. She has "nibbled" at a half bag of that formula only when very hungry. Scary when you are trying to do the very best for your dearest friend. My next purchase will be a Purina product.

Ginnie,

There have been lots of reports of sick animals from feeding Purina, plus a class action lawsuit due to illness and deaths. Please look for a better product.
