Christmas Tree O Christmas Tree
66
It's Christmas in July again! Isn't that an old idea? Yes but when you put your hand up for a game of hub tennis and get given the theme 'trees' I for one can't think of any other tree related topic I'd rather talk about than Christmas trees.
It's funny how I came around to choosing 'christmas' as the preface to 'tree'. For the past couple of day's I've been trying to think of a angle (for lack of a better word) to come at this task from. I wanted it to be a hubpage that was fun to read and also fun to write.
I headed outside with the kids to get a little perspective and hopefully inspiration. My mind wondered to thoughts of trees and what they provide, shelter, food, toilet paper.....I was starting to get worried but knew I'd work it out. While I stood in the sun on the front lawn, I could hear the sound of the wind in the trees and also a loud whoooshing sound as that same wind blew threw my left ear and out my right! I had nothing so decided to push it aside sleep on it.
That was two days ago. In the end I decided, after reading the hubpage "The First Chapter Of An Aspiring Writer", by mfrielin, to sit down and get it started.
The Trouble With Trees
I began looking for a catchy title but without a real goal for this hubpage I found it hard to come up with anything. As any inspiration had failed me, I turned to wikipedia to do a little bit of reading about trees in history in society. Did you know there is a listing for famous trees? I didn't. But it makes sense.
After that I turned to google trends figuring at least I could trying a pick a tree topic that people actually searched on. I typed in the word 'tree' & there is was .....a large as life and staring at me so hard I could almost feel it.
Christmas Tree!
Needless to say I felt more than a little sheepish. How did I miss that?

I love Christmas and Christmas trees. Every year we have a tree in our house, no matter what events are going on in our lives at the time, it just wouldn't be Christmas without a Christmas tree.

Hub Tennis
For me the motivation to have a go at hub tennis was two fold. I wanted to challenge myself to write about something I had not written about previously & if you've been following my hubs you would know I write mostly 'how to' marketing and advertising technique articles. So it was a way of stepping out of my comfort zone and also showing my desire to be an active hubpages community member.
Doing a re-read, I realise this hub is probably more about my journey to reaching a specific topic on tree's than it was about tree's iteself! So I kinda missed the mark a little : ) A big THANK-YOU to gamergirl for kicking this off. It's been a lot of fun!
Season's Greetings

I love xmas even if only xmas in july lol great hub
Aww thanks guys ; ) It's so good to get comments so fast
@ sirdent - thanks for the pressie I love it - lol. tnks for commenting
@ mulder - me too. I am a Christmas junkie. It's such a special time of the year when everyone just stops and takes stock about what they are grateful for in their life.
Nice job! Love the cabin pic. Looks like my dream retirement home!
Thanks rmr. I love that photo also, it's been on my computer for a long time now. I downloaded it cause I like it not cause I thought I'd use it : ) Not that we get snow here in Australia at Christmas time. Jingle bells......
Great return to my 'Tree' lob, promptly delivered over the net - adding more pace to the game!
I agree with you that Hub Tennis is great writing exercise - being forced out of your comfort zone with a 'random' topic (in my case Jaguar). Incidentally, I'm amazed Adsense has found suitable Christmas ads (in the UK) in July. Could be because it is cold and wet here and feels a bit like winter!
Well done!
How to hub! Fast return...I want to move into the winter picture right now. It's two million degrees outside and I'm too cheap to turn on the AC. I can't imagine Christmas in the summer, it somehow needs snow to be authentic (just what we're used to I guess)
Nice cooling hub regards Zsuzsy
@ Rik Ravado - It didn't take me long, but it was also a bit like that game of hot potato for me. Remember that game from when you were a kid? That's funny about the adsense, I hadn't even thought of that ;) too funny
@ Zsuzsy Bee - cool, thanks (yeah not very whitty I know!)
You cant beat having your own christmas tree. I used to just buy the normal one in the shops. Now I have more fun creating my own. That way it is different nearly each year. Depending how energetic I am . Last year I made a christmas card tree and my daughter made a lollie one ( I have a hub on christmas trees)
But I still have a green decororated christmas tree of some sort. Great topic thank for sharing that.
That sounds just lovely Eileen - what a top idea. We often do home made decorations, but I have never tried making a tree.
Shaye this is just another wonderful hub from you.Christmas is just perfect before a "tree".You couldn't have expressed it in a better way and my! what a quick response on hub tennis!I am trying to work on mine but looks like it going to take some time.:(
Thumbs Up from me!And I am your fan.
Thanks a bunch Abhinaya, I did have writing this and I'm gald you enjoyed the read. Some days I can get on a roll and the writing just flows and other days it takes focus and hard work.
The response from me was so quick cause the longer the project sat around the bigger my expectation grew and the more I lost sleep over it! just wanted it over : ) in a good way. Best of luck wiith the topic....tried to be kind
Ah...what a relief to gaze at this hub and feel the cool air just pour from the screen onto my face! ;)
Wonderful and informative hub on Christmas trees. I especially loved the pictures of the Christmas trees that you choose.
Thanks - I tried to pick a selection of different types of trees.
Lovely Hub now you can unleash your talents onto creative writing too! I really enjoyed your hub. In South Africa, july is midwinter so we have a tradition of Xmas in July because the weather lends itself to fires, turkey, ham, Xmas pudding. it is very hot in December so traditional Xmas fare is a bit hard to cope with. So you evoked some lovley memories for me of Xmas in July.
That's sweet thanks, but I don't know if I can stand the pressure - kidding! I can understand where you are coming from, it is hot here at christmas time also, so it's nice to hear of your fun times and memories of christmas in july.
Shaye its 100 degrees out love the snow pics!!!
to your success
Jacob
There is always escape into our imaginations isn't there!
Thanks for this great Hub... Christmas is my favorite holiday (in case you couldn't tell from my profile page) and it's nice to see someone else who thinks about it in July (my birthday month!) heehee. Your fact about the 6-8 years for a tree to mature makes me happy I can save one by having a fake :)
Well glassvisage I wish you a very happy birthday! I confess we have fake one in our home also for that exact same reason.
Waht a lovely hub. I love the picture of the Christmas trees. I already feel the season of Christmas joy. :) Thumbs up! :)
Thanks Beth, I can't wait until Christmas, it is my favorite holiday.

I suppose my Christmas present to you will be your first comment on this hub and a thumbs up. Great job and I love the photos also. Nice facts about Christmas trees also. (Will have to remember those tiny bits of trivia)
