People have shown increasing interest in oatmeal in recent years after knowing its beneficial health effects. Daily consumption of a bowl of oatmeal can lower blood cholesterol, due to its soluble fiber content.The oatmeal and other the oat products gained popularity after the January 1997 when Food and Drug Administration declared that food packets with a lot of oat bran or rolled oats can carry a label claiming it may reduce the risk of heart disease, when combined with a low-fat diet. This is because of the beta-glucan present in the oats.Oats make a non dairy milk substitute.Compared to other cereals they contain higher levels of both protein and fat. They provide useful amounts of the B vitamins thiamine, riboflavin and B6 and minerals, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc. They also contain trace amount of vitamin E, folic acid and potassium.

Oats are a good source of soluble fiber studies show that a diet which is low in fat and rich in soluble fiber would help reduce high blood cholesterol levels and helps in preventing constipation and gastro-intestinal disorders.It helps in weight control and obesity management .Reduce excess blood cholesterol and also lower blood sugar and helps to control diabetes
