Democracy Waning sees that OJ is back!

Somewhere out there is a black woman who is stooped over an old ironing board trying to force starch into the collar of her husband's shirt. From the other room, through the humid air, comes a voice "Ma, white folks are after OJ again!"

Yes, its back to the future with OJ and this time they think they got him.

Once again white America has its eyes on "The Juice." You really believe that somehow he shouldn't have gotten away before and now your licking your chops over the idea that this time you might get him and then set right the world.

I remember the last time you went after OJ. For most blacks, it was just another Roadrunner/Coyote cartoon. You never thought he would ever get away. I mean they had the DNA and the motive and the glove. You might have just as well put the word "ACME" in front of them all. He still got away.

I remember when the verdict came in. I was in Detroit shooting a video of a experiential seminar. The people in the hotel conference room were learning to work together and I was the only black person in the place.

Someone said, "Hey, the OJ verdict is in." They rolled in a TV monitor.

All the people who were, up to that time, so intent on learning how to "Change the Game," developing a new ways to work and live with each other, were now united in a way that the efforts of the facilitators could have never achieved. "We the people find the defendant, Orenthal James Simpson, not guilty."

All the faces in that room froze. You could have set off a bomb and it would not have changed a face in the room. Actually OJ just did.

As someone later said, "A white man just got away with murder and this time he was black."

You see, white people learned something that day that Blacks and other minorities have always known: rich people with lots of money can get away with murder. It doesn't matter what color they are.

When the faces in that conference room started to defrost they looked at each other and then looked at me. Instinctively, I knew not to react. I put on my best poker face. I had no expression at all. Hell, I bet they couldn't even tell if they were looking at my face or the back of my head. I leaned over and placed my eye back into the camera viewfinder and didn't move.

Later, I thought if I had screamed or high fived myself and run from the room laughing they would have chased me. No...my first reaction was right.

Yup! They are after OJ again. He really upset their apple cart with his acquittal and now they are looking for some payback. I bet he alludes them once more. The roadrunner always does.

Democracy Waning to OJ :"BEEP BEEP!"
