ONLY RELIGIOUS PEOPLE CAN GLORIFY POVERTY

Religious people are opinionated and reprogrammed by religion. They are off of the biblical truth.

Only the religious can glorify poverty, which from Eastern religions.

I will tell you my story. A long time ago I lived in Slovakia, which was under the Soviet Block. It was a socialistic country.

I was a board certified medical Internist. I escaped and risked my life swimming across the Adriatic Sea from Yugoslavia to Italy (a 3-hour swim). My heart started racing while I was swimming and I could have drowned. I can only give glory to God because He performed a miracle—I made it through the swim.

During my 5 years after my medical doctorate graduation I did not have a house or a decent apartment. I lived in an attic one-room apartment, which had a living room, kitchen, and study room all together, without a bathroom or toilet. The bathroom and toilet was common for entire corridor of tenants. We took turns cleaning.  It was mostly for doctors and nurses, including families. In one room lived three people, with a one-year old child.

We had two ring electric unit stove for cooking. There was no washing machine or laundry dryer available even it was at the hospital facility.

I did not have a car, but I did apply to get one. The deal was I had to wait for a car 5 years and put a 50% down payment (with no return interest), which was half of a 3-year salary. I borrowed the money from my father, since I was short. At that time there were no existing bank loans, or credit cards. My dad saved money working overtime to have some security when he will get old.

To visit my family I must travel (over one hour) on a bus, then by train and again by bus. I usually got a cold and a cough since in public transportation everybody coughed on you because you were so close together.

When I returned from my parents I must get up at 3 AM and walk to get the first train so I would be to work on time.

Many people in that country had TB (tuberculosis) without a cure. Young people were dying between the ages of 16-25. My beautiful female cousin died at the age of 17. Her name was Margitka.

In the sociaoistic medicine the salary I received was $ 50.00 per month. At that point, I had to calculate if I could even buy a book or not. Finally after working 5 years I got my first car. In 5 months I escaped from the country and sacrificed my car by leaving it on a Yugoslavian beach. It hurt me very much to lose that car (my dream) at the time, but I valued freedom more than the car.

By swimming across the Adriatic Sea, I had only a swimming suit. I did not have one penny to my name. It was all a  “foolish risk”, but at the same time blessing.

I did not know the language once I arrived in the United States. I did not have with me my medical diploma, nothing. But I will tell you it was all worth it. I had to start all over again. I had to work in training for my two specialties. I did it with God’s help.

Recently I received a comment by one young Christian lady, who said: “I am blessed because I am poor.” What is blessing is it to be poor? She does not even know what poverty is. But I know that is poverty a curse of the law and not a blessing (Deuteronomy 28).  It is very sad for me. I am speechless.

Vladimir, you are right that many of us really do not know true poverty. To be poor in America is to have a roof over our heads, have just enough food, a bike or a car (or afford to take the bus), a phone. When we compare to the wealthy in America, this is being "poor". Some have illnesses who cannot work and must live a lesser lifestyle. But I'm sure our sister meant that she is blessed in God's goodness and presence; His provision to keep her.

There are those like you who know poverty. That kind of poverty is oppression and bondage. You have the heart of a warrior! Our Lord is our provider and we do all that we can to provide for ourselves and our families. Where we fall short, He seems to bless us even more because we are His!

He just doesn't want us to become wicked in our hearts in that we become greedy, always wanting more without remembering to help those like you when you needed help! Praise God He set you free from this! You are such a blessing and I know you have helped others financially because of your heart of compassion, the heart of Christ. Be encouraged. You are so loved, which is far more precious than gold! Amen!!

I would rather be poor, which I am, then rich and not know the Lord! There is a certain calm and serenity not having too much money. The Lord provides for me. The rich sure don't know what it means to have the Lord intervene when you are in a jam and they certainly will never know the same contentment I have. I would never want to trade places. I just want a roof over my head, food in my stomach and just enough money to pay the bills. You can never serve two Gods, money and God. You will either hate the one and love the other. You cannot serve both God and money. I feel you misunderstood in the first place. Be glad you were where you were at that time so that the Lord could reveal Himself to you, otherwise you would of never known that blessing.

Judah's Daughter, I thank you for your encouraging comment. You are such a blessing to me and many. I am aware that poverty is relative matter. And I understand well what the person meant. I just could not respond, since I am in war with negatives. Thank you for your love.

Thank God for this hub, because God's people have bought the lie. Poverty is not the will of God concerning His Own. Christ was poor, that we may be rich. Cursed, The Bible says, is every one that hangs on a tree. Well, Christ hung on a tree for us when He hung on the cross. So there is no more curse for us, except we refuse to believe this and receive it. Thanks, Vladimir. Praises to God.

Dear friend,

I just want to give me opinion. I think both poor and people can be blessed if they trust God in all their hearts. To be reach is not bad by itself but it is just too easy not to fall and say:

"I have it all, what else do I need. I can control my destiny, my future." And of course there is where man falls.

When he thinks he is the master of his life.

On the other hand people who are Christians and are rich have to be careful not to have love to the money.

Just my two cents.

Otherwise Vladimir Uhri is not my brother. He is my father since he is older than me.

Thank you friend for the comment.

I lived in necessity and also in blessing.

Jesus was rich. He was born and got chunk of gold. I did not.

The church missed many good things. It is not about being rich it is about when having money we can give and perform the purpose we have in our life. Without money I would not be able to sent to underground church in Czechoslovakia books I published.

Actually I have to learn about that. I hope you would teach me not to be poor so I can give to the poor and be able to teach them the Gospel. Thank you

I rather place (seed) "giving" to good ground according to Mark 4, then to bad ground of unbelief. Giving is the seed. :).
