ORGANIZATIONAL SECURITY AND HEALTH MONOGRAFIA

The conception of industrial security suffered modifications in the new organizations.

Previously, security was alone an evicted function to an unit, department or management. Nowadays, the trend is to conceive security as integral and functional part of all organization. So, to a healthful organization is required that it functions with security.

In other words, a healthy organization is, among other things, a safe organization.

Security in a healthy organization is manifested in such a way in material conditions as in its people. For one aspect, organization must provide safe environment (equipment, tools and materials in good condition, adjusted ways of access, and elimination of ambient risks) that they guarantee a free functioning of potential risks.

For another part, it must be guaranteed that its people act with security. In other words, a healthful organization is interested by the health of its material installations (good functioning and absence of damage) and by the health of its people (physical and psychological integrity).

An ample concept of security is offered by Romero-Garcia (1996), that defines Total Security as the process by means of which person leads in such way that protects his physical and psychological integrity in all the environments where acts, not working members of labor party only.

In this definition, security implies in organizacional health.

Morales (1997) carried through a directed study to explore the theory that how has people relation to security. By means of analysis of common linguistic expressions (sayings, said, popular anecdotes) he identified the metaphors that allow to discover as we think the brazilians with respect to the security.

One of the metaphors identified for Morales was the security as life, according to which the security is a way to be healthy and alive. This metaphor clearly reflects the connection between security and health. Some of the pointers of this metaphor are: the security is life guarantee, rewards to act safe is the health, a safe person is somebody that is wanted.
