Ask Susan Peters Dog Food Review

Read the labels! Every pet food should be up to these standards!

I don't like the use of "natural flavor" because the pet food companies don't tell us where this flavor comes from it is safe to assume the flavor is of the animal the product is supposed to taste of. Chicken flavor comes from chicken manure. Potatoes are a bad deal since pets don't need potatoes in their diet this is another cheap filler. Animal fat is a bad deal because the fat is usually obtained from restuarant greese and other less desirable locations. Animal fat is used to get pets to eat a product that the pet would not normally have a desire to eat.

why does the rating state +1 for not having animal fat when chicken fat is labelled in the ingredients?

You list two posings for Orijen Adult Dry Dog Food. One with a high rating and the other very low. Can you please explain if there is a difference and exactly what it is.

She cannot explain because she is sorely confused.

By the way -you know how humans need fat in their diets? So do dogs. I would rather see a premium kibble use SPECIFIC Animal derived fat sources that unnamed or plant sources.

Check the facts again - the Chicken Fat should be a plus.

I compleatly agree, she doesn't know what she's talking about. Check out the Orijen puppy page, lol, she is pathetic!!

Agreed. She is a bit confused . Chicken manure?

All dry kibble has to be processed with some type of carbohydrate ( in this case, potatoes) as a binder. Better the binder be potato, than corn, wheat or soy. Restaurant greese? (correct spelling is "grease".) All mammals require some amount of fat in their diet. Dogs convert fat to energy, excess is stored. Calories from fat rather than carbohydrates in a dog's diet helps keep blood glucose levels from constant fluctuation, help with skin & coat health,

Natural flavorings in pet food are made from animal digest (chicken digest, beef digest, etc). Digest is NOT manure, as in "digested food". It is "Material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and undecomposed animal tissue. The animal tissues used shall be exclusive of hair, horns, teeth, hooves and feathers" The tissue is processed, concentrated, then sprayed on the food to intensify the flavors.

You should not be doing dog food reviews. Potatoes are a high quality carbohydrate, and should never be a negative; unless only peelings are used.

Chicken fat is a good quality ingredient. Misc animal fat is not. You can not compare the two.

I have used Acana and Orijen for all my working cattle dogs. We rely on these dogs for a living. before we switched to Acana our 7 month old Puppy couldnt keep weight on, had no energy and wasnt wanting to work. I love my dogs and went on a search for the right food for our pets. Acana is by far the feed that they do the best on, my cat is on Acana, our pup is gaining weight and herding cattle like never before!! Im an Acana Feeder for life!
