Ask Susan Peters Dog Food Review

Read the labels! Every pet food should be up to these standards!

What you should know about dog food:

Chicken By-products are floor sweepings collected from a rendering plant. Anything that hits the floor and is not fit for human consumption is by-product. By-products can't have "added" feathers but the ones included in the mess are just fine. Meal means the floor sweepings have had the water removed and the feathers, poultry poo, whatever has hit the floor - is now concentrated.

Corn is a cheap filler used by pet food companies to reduce production costs. We should take time out from this review to remind ourselves of the good and bad effects of corn in a cat or dog's diet. *Corn, wheat and soy are resonsible for fever, ear aches, ear infections, bad bread, dental disease, hair loss, dry and itchy skin, bloat, tumors, warts, moles, abnormal nail growth, arthritis, deafness, blindness, digestive problems, inflamed liver, inflamed kidneys, bladder problems, heart problems, and death. Oh yeah, for the good effects of corn and wheat - reduces the cost of pet food production.

Beet pulp is another cheap filler used by pet food companies. "Beet Pulp" sounds good, doesn't it? Well it's not. Just because Grandma told us we had to eat our beets as kids does not mean it is good for our pets. Grandma didn't take the nutrients out of the beet and leave us just the dried fiber to eat, did she? Beet pulp is junk.

Natural Flavor. I always like the way pet food companies hide the use of manure in the ingredients. Natural flavor is made from the manure of the animal the pet food company wants the pet food to taste like. Brewer's rice and brewer's dried yeast are by-products of beer production. There you go, your little pet gets what is left over after a beer run, the stuff not fit for human consumption.

We recently added a mini dachshund to our family. We recieved a bag of food from the breeder and after researching information regarding puppy food, I tried Orijen Puppy. We are slowly switching out the breeder food and Orijen Puppy and already see the difference! He has more energy. He is not as gassy and he leaves more solid poops instead of the watery ones.

Liz,

If the food from the breeder contains corn, wheat, or soy don't switch slowly. Throw the poison out at once!

Thank you for your report on the puppy food. It is always nice to hear from someone who uses a product!

Keep us posted.

Susan

ON another page you state "potatos are a cheap filler" and fats and oils are a flavor enhancer to make dogs eat. Then you say salt is bad and this food has all of the above. What about natural flavor? You call that manure and this has that too.

Your reviews dont make sense.

Hi,

I am feeding our 11 week old Black Lab puppy the Orijen Large Breed puppy kibble, but am somewhat concerned about the high protein level (42%). Any feedback on such a high level of protein? I have heard that it could damage to the kidney's...

Thanks,

Steve

Ok, are you saying any kind of grain is bad? All dogs are different, if your dog has trouble with one brand, yes you should switch(and slowly is a good idea, to fast of a switch can cause upset digestion)but just because it is not right for that kind of dog does NOT mean that it is poison! Asksusanpeters, you are making yourself look pathetic and unproffesional, like someone who has a grudge against Orijen and wants to get even. Switching slowly is best for the dog, even IF your WERE switching from poison, don't you want what is best for the dog? Furthermore, if the food WAS poison, and CAUSED the animal to die(that's what poison is, something that CAUSES the body that recives it to die.) would they be allowed to sell it? I realize that there are pet food makers that use awful things in the food, but it is very cheap of you to try and de-credit good quality companies like Orijen, calling their food poison, and telling people to throw it out! I want the name of the pet food you DO promote. If it exists......... Orijen has a much higher protein level because they have a much higher meat content, which makes their food closer to a natual dog diet, and a wild dog would need more protein, more energy, to survive. Stop trying to turn people away from good quality foods, and do everyone a favour. I'll be waiting for that food name............

I dont think the previous poster took the time to read the comments. But asksusanpeters was telling the lady to switch from the brand that her breeder gave her not Origen. I'm in the same situation and the breeder advised me to feed the dog puppy chow good thing is I only feed it to him for 2 days prior to reading this post I purchased a small bag so I will not be at a loss. Im switching to this brand or wellness. Im greatful for website that provide free informative information that prepares me to purchase properly. The video on pet food was really sick but greatly appreciated.

Thanks for you time with these reviews, they appear unbiased well researched.

Cyril
