Wanting Better
45BREAKING THE CYCLE
Growing up in the city of Chicago was a wonderful experience. City life give you a chance to meet people of all cultures. There a many benefits about grown up in a large city for example, people raised in the city seem to far more aware of the surrounding. They seem to pay more attention to what other are doing, you can usually tell when people a from the city. You tend to look over shoulder more when your walking down the street or alleys. City people have a more confident walk and tend to be a little louder then most. I moved to the burbs to break the cycle ,you always want your children to have it a little better and easier than you did.
What I mean by breaking the cycle is I going and visits and it is like time has stood still the, when you look at the teens they are us twenty years ago hanging in the alleys and at the parks doing nothing but partying. I did not want that life for my children. It was good for me but I wanted better for them.
Wanting to break the cycle of city life, we moved for better schools, less gangs, and what I thought was going to be less drug. In moving we accomplishes the first two things but, the drugs I am unsure. In the time I have spent in the burbs, I and see more and more people on meds.
Instead of the common street drugs in the city, a lot people are taking prescription drugs instead. I would have to say, about six out ten people are either a pain killer or what I referred to as a feel good drugs(antidepressants). What do people not understand, there is not a pill in this world that will replace or erase life's choices.
Maybe prescription are just easier to get with less consequences by the law. Where as street drug you can end up in jail or are consider a addict. Just because you get them form a doctor does my mean you won't become addicted. Could it just be the cost because the insurance pay for them.
What are we teaching our children, that if you are feeling bad oh, just take a pill it will be alright. I almost believe my girl would have had a better chance in the city. A least in the city the drug dealer were scary looking, not like the burbs where the teen just go into the parents medicine cabinets and they can party for the night.
