Obama in Primetime

First President Obama made his speech. I feel it was a strong speech, however he did stumble and he missed a word in one of the first sentences. Other than that I delt his speech at the begining of the Q&A was strong.
I think it explained were we as a nation are headed. What the Presidnet is looking for from congress in concerns with his budget. He also explained about the problems with AIG and that the problems were there when he took office. We found out that the bonuses that were given out to the top 15 executives of AIG were contracted long before the Obama administration took office, this means it happened under the Bush administration. He also went on to explain how the effect of not helping AIG would cause a bigger mess than we already in. I still think we should have let them fail, but understanding that peoples retirements, home insurance, debt insurance, insurance of peoples 401k's, are all covered under AIG. Yes even though I think AIG should go bankrupt, I believe that preventing our retirment funds and 401k's from going to zero and we are left with nothing to live off of is a good thing.
Healthcare and the rising cost of medicare and medicaide were also an issue. The President feels that if the rising cost of healthcare aren't taken care of the future may be worse off than the problems we are currently seeing. In current time when hospitals are turning away patients who need help because the cost of insurance is so high and the cost of medical labor is skyrocketting at a very fast pace. I do feel that this is an issue to be fixed as soon as possible, so that we as Americans can afford healthcare for us,our children, our parents.
President Obama also stated in the first part of his speech that teachers and police, and firefighters have already started to see the effects of the stimulus. This is good! It keeps police departments from laying off or firing police officers from their respective police departments. This is able to keep good hard working officers on the streets fighting criminals like the one in Los Angeles over the weekend. I know this is an example that ended badly with 4 officers who died, but the criminal was also killed. Due to the fine hard working, stressed, and not often thanked police officers. Byt the fact is that with this stimulus that is helping the police, actions like the one that happened over the weekend will prevented from turning into a potentially bad situation.
Teachers already getting the help from the stimulus! This is a necessity, our children in elementary school through high school need to be taught. They need teachers who will teach, and teach at a high level that will challenge the minds of our children. Our children need to pushed not only by their teachers who are looked at like daycare providers, but the children also need to pushed by the parents. Our teachers in our respective schools work long hard days with no thanks from the parents for them stretching the minds of their children. The teachers don't get paid well, this i think is mostly because there are parents out there who cry that the education system is too hard for their children to learn. So teachers get paid on how they teach. If parents would look at countries like Japan, China, Germany,Russia,England,France,Canada, parents would recognize that our children are at a disadvantage on the learning curve. This effects who the job force in this country will turn out. When many companies will want highly educated applicants, no American will be able to get a job in America if our children aren't taught at high level, and our children aren't pushed to learn above their expectations.
Obama even said that the economy which took along time to get to the problem we are in is looking like it turning around. Housing prices are starting to stable, intrest rates are at low levels, and buyers are starting to buy. Even with the $8000 credit for first time home owners. While prices are low people will buy and will not have the high intrest rates. This in a way is a stimulus to the economy. Cheap home prices, low intrest means extra money to spend from these buyers. This will put money into the economy and banks will start to lend again. I do not see a negative with new buyers and other buyers buying up the homes on the markets.
Don't forget a law enforcement officer, a fire fighter, and a teacher. These jobs tend to be forgotten about.
THANK YOU!!!

Swine flu and reform dominated the year Health care reform and swine flu dominated the headlines in 2009. And both failed to live up to the hype. I rarely listen to a politician speak. What they do is far more important then what they say. Reagan spoke about the importance of smaller government as he drove the national debt to new heights. Bush Sr. told us "Read my lips." and he raised taxes anyway. Bush Jr told us the mission was accomplished but our boys are still dying in the middle east. I will judge Mr. Obama by what he accomplishes and not by the skill of his speechwriter.
