Obama's DOJ: Something wicked this way comes

You know those moments in film when the antagonist's master plan is lining up, and you know something is about to happen, but you just can't figure out what? That's the feeling I get when looking at who Obama has brought into the Department of Justice.

Not one, two, or three, but five RIAA lawyers now hold key positions at the DOJ. These are the reasonable folks at the RIAA that insist that one pirated music track (that's $1 on iTunes) is worth $150,000 (Wired Magazine). So this is the part where I'm scratching my head and wondering what sort of "justice" our president hopes to dispense when the motivations of these RIAA puppets will clearly be attacking Internet piracy - a very small part of our nation's many legal issues, and one that is steeped not in protecting the American people from crime, but rather ensuring corporate profit persists as effectively as possible.

I mean, will you really sleep better at night knowing that the DOJ is busting 12-year-olds who're downloading music in their basements instead of focusing on crimes that actually infringe on the liberties of others?

I guess I'd just like to understand what Obama's motivation is in appointing people of the RIAA's questionable ilk to his administration. Sure, all politics boil down to money or power, but he has to think about public opinion now, too, and clearly loading the deck in the RIAA's favor is polarizing public opinion on how he intends to address Internet piracy. Seeing as how the RIAA is all in favor of forcing ISPs to surrender their customers' personal info, posing as real cops on busts, and generally acting like the self-appointed gestapo of digital information, it's pretty clear where Obama has placed his loyalty. Unfortunately, it isn't with the liberty and freedom of the American people - at least not on this issue.
