Fox News the controversial television station that has been at odds with the Obama Administration production a fair assessment of the President Obama's progress on campaign promises. The Fox News network has been viewed as a Republican forum of disagreements on the programs and policies to the extent that the president has disallowed television visits to the studio. Robert Gates, the president publicist has said that any inferences of overlooking the Fox News Network was into intentional. Although there is doubt as to whether the Obama Administration view Fox News as a Republican forum of discontent or a bonafide news television network providing unbiased news to the American public.
Fox News as if in a race to get the back with the other news network's unbiased presentation of news about the new presidency had these comments to make about the the campaign promises and the campaign promises broken: As in the Fox news report, the good new will be presented first of which are the campaign promises kept and the not so good news of campaign promises broken will be presented later.
Obama's Campaign Promise: " I will send two to three brigades to Afghanistan.
Promise Kept: Since taking office, President Obama has order 21,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. Obama order two brigades to the battlefield in February and this March ordered an additional 4,000 troops to Afghanistan. The military has requested an additional 40,000 troops to Afghanistan. Obama and his team is considering the strategy and continue to mull over the military request.
Obama's Campaign Promise: Obama pledged to save millions of foreclosed homes with the establish of a foreclosure prevention program to keep Americans in their homes.
Promise Kept: In February, Obama passed a $75 million housing bill to keep Americans in their homes to guard against foreclosure. Funds were from the Wall Street bailouts and from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Only a fraction of qualified homeowners have taken advantage of the housing program and it got off to a slow start.
Obama Campaign Promise: During the presidential campaign, Obama told his then running mate Hillary Clinton that he will be looking for her to advise him if he was to win the election.
Promise Kept: Obama appointed Senator Hillary Clinton from New York to become one of his cabinet members as Secretary of State. Although Hillary Clinton has been outspoken in Pakistan, Obama seems satisfied with the Secretary of State who replaced former Secretary of State Rice under former President Bush.
Obama Campaign Promise: Iraq removal of troops within sixteen months after taking office was high on the president's agenda.
Promise Kept: This promise is slightly kept according to Fox News as only a portion of troops have been removed from Iraq. Obama has set August of 2010 as the date to withdraw troops from Iraq which is nineteen months after taking public office instead of the sixteen months promised in his campaign pledge.
Obama Campaign Promise: Regarding middle class taxes, the president, he promised not to make any tax increases or tax liability increases for families making less than $250,000 a year.
Promise Kept: Again, Fox News state this campaign promise as a partial fulfillment. Middle class wage earners got their tax relief as part of the $787 billion Economic Stimulus Package. Most Americans think that the tax advantages were lost in other government programs that the president mandated. Republicans recently released a list of programs that increased middle class taxes inclusive of a tobacco tax and taxes hikes that may result as a result of the health reform bill.
Obama Campaign Promise: "Now is the time for all Americans to have affordable health care." spoken by Obama during his many campaign speeches.
Promise a Work in Progress: Health care reform has been listed as one of Obama top priorities and is presently in Congress as a bill yet to be passed into a law. The bill seeks to make health insurance affordable and accessible to all Americans incorporating use of public options and penalties to large companies not insuring their employees. Research has shown that the legislation if passed would significantly bring insurance coverage to many more Americans. The controversy is that most Americans do not want a government run health care bill even though the president is saying that if you are happy with your insurance program that you can keep it.
Obama Campaign Promise: Obama pledged to modernize the financial system in America and to bring common sense regulations into its management. Obama pledged to restore credibility to the financial system after the outrage of AIG and Wall Street bonuses.
Promise a Work in Progress: The Obama administration has instituted a host of government financial programs including the creations of a consumer protection agency. The government has been instrumental in bailout of banks, major automobile dealerships such as GM and Chrysler.
