After Nine Months in Office President Barack Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize
President Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize after nine months in public office. The Associated Press reported from Oslo that President Obama received in a stunning decision the prestigious award for his initiatives encouraging the reduction of nuclear arms. The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to President Obama also because of his easement of tensions in the Muslim World and replace unilateral American action with international diplomacy and cooperation.
The Associated Press reports that Nobel Peace Prize observers were shock with the selection of President Obama so early in his presidential term. Barack H. Obama was elected President of the United States on January 20, 2009. Obama election to the presidency was within two weeks of the last day to submit nominations for the internationally coveted award which was February 1, 2009.
The Obama administration was surprised as well as Robert Gibbs, President Obama press secretary awoke Barack Obama to the news at 6:00 a.m. EDT October 10, 2009. The White House as of the associated press printing has made no immediate comment of President Barack Obama winning of the Nobel Peace Prize after such a short time in public office.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized President Obama with the Nobel Peace Prize from Oslo for his call for peace and international cooperation and the initiatives to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms. At one time the proliferation of nuclear arms was called the nuclear arms race. President Barack Obama encourages a reduction in nuclear arms with international cooperation and diplomacy. President Obama also won the Nobel Peace Prize for easing conflict with the Muslim World. The Norwegians also cited President Obama for the Nobel Peace prize because of his strengthening of the United States role to combat climate change.
The chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee said that rarely has a person "to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future." Some political critics are saying that the Nobel Prize Committee gave George W. Bush a "slap" for his largely unilateral military action even after the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. The Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee praised President Obama for the return of multilateral diplomacy and institutions such as the United Nations as the center of the world stage. The Nobel Prize Committee also praised President Obama for "a new climate in international politics."
The Associated Press reports that Archbishop Desmond TuTu said that by winning the Nobel Peace Prize shows that great things are expected of President Obama in the future. Archbishop Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984. The Archbishop went on to say that "Its an award coming from the beginning of the first term of the office of a relatively young president that anticipates an even greater contribution toward making our world a safer place for all. It is an award that speaks to the promise of President Obama's message of hope."
The Nobel Peace Prize committee received 205 nominations for the international coveted humanitarian award including a Chinese dissident, an Afghan women rights activists and an Zimbabwe prime minister. President Obama is the third sitting president to win the Nobel Peace Prize. President Theodore Roosevelt won in 1906 and President Woodrow Wilson won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1919. President Carter, although not a sitting president at the time, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his mediation in international conflicts. Former Vice President Al Gore was honored by the Nobel Prize Committee for his campaign to raise awareness of global warming.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation had this to say about President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize: "We trust that this award will strengthen his commitment, as the leader of the most powerful nation in the world, to continue promoting peace and the eradication of poverty."

Scott.Life, thank you for your comment. Buy believe it or not there were writers on Digg that got the stories three hours before I did. AP had released the story eleven minutes after I decided to publish the information as one of my hubpages. Thank you for the compliment.

Nicely presented I posted this comment(below) on another hub and in the forum but felt it appropriate to post it here and gain your opinion and that of your readers. This smells of politcal shanigans from the onset and should be viewed as an embarasment not an achievement.
"One has to wonder what fantasy trip the Nobel prize committee was on to have even considered this nomination yet alone ratify it. Apparently the planned world apology tour blaming “evil Americans” for all the world’s ills was enough for the 5-member committee, comprised of 4 women, including one avowed socialist, to swoon.
Since invitations to nominate are sent out to “qualified” nominators in September and must be post marked not later than February 1st and it only takes one “qualified” person to nominate, it is reasonable to assume the Obama machine had this one in the works for a while. Imagine doing all that peace prize stuff in just 10 days after the January 21st inauguration. Oh wait, how long does it take for a letter to get to Norway from here?
He must have gotten it for picking out the correct drapes or a bedspread with a Norwegian pattern. What a joke and a Hoax.
Who might the qualified nominator be? Considering the nominators qualifications rules list I would guess this “honor” fell upon Former President and Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter. And since this information is kept, by rule, under wraps for 50 years we can only guess. Way to go Jimmy, another fell swoop in your continuing fight to prove us all idiots to the rest of the world.
We can now assume this great hollow victory will now be considered a success and another stepping stone along the path of the continued campaign towards mediocrity and the one world vision of socialistic complacency.
The left’s fawning is beyond laughable."
I knew they would start attacking the credibility of the panel. I am really tired of nasty people who assume that everyone else has nasty intentions.
You disagree? Fine. Don't try and turn it into another left-wing conspiracy... They gave him the award and no matter what you say, it will stand.
Whether they like it or not...this does look good for the USA as a whole.
very fast good article
readytoescape, thank you for your comment.
Uninvited Writer?thank you for your comment.
Lgali thank you for your comment.
Very good and informative article. I just wish our President were as worried about keeping peace among the people of the United States as he is everyone else. The rift is continuing to deepen along party lines and amongst those who do and do not want his version of the health care over haul. There is also a huge rift developing between Christians and non Christians now as well. I am thankful for anything our President can do to stop Nuclear expansion and to hasten the Peace process with other Nations but not at the expense and embarrassment of many Christians in this Nation and those who believe that this Nation was indeed founded on Christian principles. The Nobel Peace prize is also supposed to be given for what changes HAVE been "made", not for a change in "tone". The President has not caused any actual policy changes to made in other countries. All he has accomplished is the continuation of "talks". He has not done any Humanitarian deeds. There are those who would have deserved it more!
Linda,
I'm sure Uninvited Writer's comments were directed at me. Your article was clear, concise and reported the facts without opinion. My comments echoed your facts, added a couple and was scattered with sarcastic critisism.
Quite deserved I might add.
I posted a hub on this subject too. Your is well written. Thanks.
In the days to come we will see more back-biting from the Far-Right in America on this issue.
These people are so full of hatred for Obama that whatever he does is greeted with derison. They cheered when he failed to win the Olympics for Chicago, after all.
BTW, the fact that I've been here for 4 days makes my opinions no less worthy....

Very good Hub and timely.
Now if Obama will get the troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan and close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp like he promised he would before I voted for him, I might agree with the prize.
kebennett1, Thank you for your comment. President Obama said that he was humbled of the Nobel Peace Prize and will donate the 1.4 million prize money to charity.
