Chris Matthews unravels facts about museum shooter.
Hi Chris, thanks for unraveling the mystery surrounding the shooter, James W van Buren. I am sure you must have put in exhaustive hours of investigative research to come to the conclusion that he is a "right wing extremist." Wow, that is the type of investigative journalism we look to you and your net work for. Look how cleverly this guy disguised his true feelings by making anti right remarks for years.
I wonder which trail you followed to come to the conclusion that he was a right winger?
Was it the one where van Buren said he hated President Bush and all Bush neocons? Oh, maybe it was the rants he had against that lefty guy Bill O'Reilly on that left leaning Fox network, or was it his out spoken opposition to the Iraqi war? Oh he was very clever I tell you, ranting against the right all these years, disguising his true feelings.
This mask must have made it very difficult to get to the truth that this was a right wing conspiracy. The same way that Hillary dug in deep and found a "vast right wing conspiracy" claiming her husband was having an affair with an intern named Lewinski.
I don't know how you uncovered it but it was pure genius.
I bet this conspiracy goes back years. It must have been a conservative right leaning Judge that gave the guy only seven years for entering the Federal Reserve with a sawed off shot gun protesting Regan's fiscal budgets too.
Wait a minute, I think I got it! It's the "W" . His name gave it away, James "W" van Buren. All this time he was symbolically and silently honoring his true hero "W". Great work Chris!!
I wonder if anyone ever told Hillary that her husband did have that affair with Lewinski?

Objective journalism has to be the most obvious oxymoron of all time....
I think its defined it as a personality cult...never seen such fawning since the press's adoration of Adolph Hitler in 1936 Germany...He was lionized as the Saviour, the restorer of German pride, the most mesmerizing and articulate speaker in history...Sound familiar..? And he didn't even have teleprompters..!
Hey 101, lol--- on the teleprompter---how did Lincoln and Washington do it? The media has gone from being a watch dog media to lap dog media.
The Shark
Wow Shark - I just love reading your stuff. I practically throw up if I happen to accidentally hit the button on my remote that goes to MSNBC. I can't stand the sight of those guys with all their lies. They just sit there and make it up - but the astounding part is that there are some who actually buy it. I really like your sarcasm. Cheers!
it was fox that lied and assisted bush in stealing the election from gore.oh how quickly we forget.Bill yon---the drive by democrat
Hi X, thanks, satire not sarcasm---a shark would never be sarcastic---lol
The Shark
Ok Bill, your arguments are becoming more juvenile by the day.
A network can not steal a Presidential election, plain and simple. The only networks that might have influenced the FL vote were MSNBC, NBC, ABC, and CBS, as they called the state for Gore while the polls were still opened.
The pan handle section, the conservative area in FL is in CST and was still voting. How many people left the voting lines to go home after they heard the lib networks had called the state for Gore? We will never know.
Gore hurt himself when he asked for a re-count of only liberal democratic counties like Broward county. maybe if he had asked for a state wide re-count they might have done it, but the results would have been the same.
Then we had the problem with the geniuses that didn't know how to vote, but voted anyway---well sort of did. So we had liberal municipal employees in liberal counties asking "what do you think the intent of this voter was?"
Amazing, people so dumb they didn't even know how to punch a ballot. We knew that as kids, we had the same kind of punch voting card for the baseball allstar game---we never left hanging chads. We knew our vote couldn't be counted properly.
Forget having an ID to vote, we should require an IQ test to vote. Can you honestly tell me someone like Henrietta, who asked the President for a new kitchen at a town hall meeting should be voting? Someone like that is going to vote for someone that could affect all of us?
Bill, did you even read my reply to you on Fishskinfreakan2008's hub about Gov Rick Perry and TX?
You have to do better if you are going to participate.
I gave you the name of a gentleman to research, Harry Alford, have you checked him out?
The Shark---trying to do the impossible--educate Bill
what me? juvenile?yes I read your reply, why do you think I'm swimming in shark infested waters? Bill yon---getting up under the sharks skin
Hi Bill, you will never get under my skin. I just want to have an intelligent engagement, not an emotinal name calling session that no one gets anything from.
Did you do some reseach on Harry Alford?
Hi Tex, couldn't agree with you more on the networks.
The night Obama had his big health care speech and couldn't explain it, Matthews seemed pretty upset. I think he had a tingle going down his leg that night.
The thing that sacres me with the Tax and Spend bill and the Health Care take over is that even if it is defeated, we came that close.
The big push now is to call congressman and ask if they have read the bill---the news is they are worried that the secret is out that they don't read these bills before voting.
The other thing is a push calling on Congress and the Senate to go on the same health plan we are being forced into.
The Shark
I find that while MSNBC spins the B.S., so do FOX and CNN. Indeed, the viewers demand it. We are all so used to our own brand of news, and these three major cable networks do their best to get ratings and revenue. They each have their niche audience, and each audience just can't believe how people can be fooled by the other guy's B.S.
I really don't believe any of them really tell the whole truth or report without bias of some sort. When they do, their ratings will be "up there" with the few true journalistic outlets we have left in the country. (Really "down there" since most people want to hear what they want to hear and nothing else.)
But I do watch all three because at times I'll see a story on FOX, for example, that doesn't run on CNN or MSNBC. (Vice versa also happens) Then I'll check to see if it runs on the other two networks and watch how they handle it or how they ignore it. Sadly, they all mangle the "facts."
Great hub, have fun and keep writing!
Well, chef I haven't heard anyone on Fox say they get a "tingle" up their leg every time Obama speaks.
Nor did I hear anyone on Fox say that they considerd "their job to see that this president succeeds."
I hear msnbc refeer to people execising their right to question their congressman as mobs.
Intersting how this same network played Hilary's rant about their right to dissent and being the responsibilty of Americans to challenge their leaders, adding we need a dialouge.(you can watch it on you tube)
But that's only when it's a republican president. When the dem's are in we are supposed to worship at the alter. And if we question, we are a mob.
Funny how they didn't think Cindy Sheehan's mob was a mob.
The Shark
Shark, people on both sides of any issue usually only see when their side is being done wrong. I have no doubt about what your are saying and that it is true, but I do say that for every issue you point out there is someone just as passionate and angry who will point out that the "other side" has done the same to them.
I am not here to quetion that Anerica today has some great divides on issues. I know that just from hearing people where I live. People want health care reform for the most part, but the devil is in the details. Some want a government backed plan, others want single payer, and others just want hands off.
The truth of the matter is that a serious and deep dialogue needs to take place because whatever and however this issues gets resolved, it will be with us for a very long time.
In the meantime, however, as I stated inone of my hubs, people are dying because they can't get treatment. I've lost more than twenty friends and family in the last five years or so because they neither quaified for health coverage nor could get follow up treatment after an ER visit.
Last Autumn I was found to have a serious spinal problem that would have taken my life, and I was in the past month of my carry-over health coverage. I was lucky enough to get a government job and now it is being attended to. But I was very close to losing everything because I could not aford to pay the costs.
Anyway, thanks for reading my comments.
Cheers!
Chef Jeff
Hi Chef,
When you say the other side, tell me where outside of Fox you can find something showing the other side. That's the problem, the media has turned into a branch of the DNC and looks to conservatives or republicans to blame for everything.
Tell me which network might be considered conservative or even fair and balanced, NBC?, CBS?, ABC?, CNN?, MSNBC?
Where---please tell me...
Even in print journalisn---what would you consider not in favor of the liberal point?, NY Times?, LA Times?, Boston Globe? Where---please tell me.
You've got the MSNBC host telling us he gets a "tingle" up his leg everytime Obama speaks, and that it is "his job to see that this president succeeds.----Are you joking?
Where is Edwar R Murrow? I'd even settle for Tom Brokaw at this point.
It's gotten so bad that we have a president that makes the remark in a press conference to the white house correspondants that you all understand, "after all, you all voted for me."
Or how about the remark the president made about Brian Williams. I couldn't sleep all night wresteling with this issue. "So I rolled over and asked Brian Williams what he thought."-----Are you joking??
The only place conservatives can go is "inependant" talk radio. And what is the response from the Democrat controlled Senate and House---We need the "Fairness Doctrine."---Are you joking???
How about free speech!!
These shows are not a network---they are independant syndiacted shows that depend on paying sponsors---who only pay if there is an audience.
The dems are trying to force equale time as if this was a follow up to a speech.
The Dems were so desperate to get on radio that they tried a losing network venture, air america, it failed because of no listeners, which translates to no sponsors.
Chef, I am begging you brother---this is more than just a story "our side" disagreed with---we are under assault.
Try to find the same type of vile jokes on late night about the current administration we got about the previous admin, and continue to get.
For god sakes, it got so bad at CBS that they were forced to have Rather resign after the ridiculous statement, I don't care if the story can be proven, I believe it, that's all that matters.----Are you joking???
I'll leave you with this---How many of the "main stream" media have reported that "in the bill" it says that if you miss your health ins. payment and your policy lapses---you will be subject to having your wages garnished!!!
Sounds like the IRS in health care.
The Shark
PS: You think your having trouble getting service now, in the words of Mark Twain--wait a minute---because if you think service is going to get better under govt run health care, well then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
I watch some of the evening cable news shows, and I change off between the three big guys. Our local news does not take sides as a rule, but why should we settle for newscasts that take one side or the other? Newscasts are supposed to give us facts, not spin and opinion. I agree FOX may be the lone voice out there for some in this nation, but I have problems believing any of these stations. They all seem to be in the business of spinning and hyping to get ratings and to trash each other. I was a teacher and it all sounds as if they are kids in the playground, mocking each other and telling fibs to impress their friends.
Where is Murrow? well, even he was slanted, but I did like his ability to sort through the issues and find the facts, even when they were contrary to what he believed was going on.
the trouble is that most media outlets believe they need to compete on the lowest level. that's why I have to sort through the hype and BS to get some inkling of the facts. Anyway, now that some of the anti-anti-health bill people are guarding the doors, I am wondering if bloodshed will occur. This whole thing is being spun way out of control, and I hold the media - all of it - accountable.
I do have to say I admire that O'Reilly & Coulter decided not to comment on the Obama birth certificate matter. I am still not certain how to think on that issue, but I tend to believe he is a citizen, because here in Illinois we get the same kind of document instead of the actual certificate of birth. Time will tell, but I have to wonder if that will ever be resolved.
What're you thoughts on the newest bit of bizarreness to come out of these townhall meetings? Union members guarding doors? Sounds like the pro and anti militias are being called up! Don't people think for themselves anymore?
Is this now a Civil War? I wonder.
Cheers, Chef Jeff
Well Chef I'll tell you the truth, I think the Japanese Admiral said it best following the attack on Pearl. I think all we have done is awoken a sleeping giant.
I would say it is what the libs have done as well. They have finally succeded in shaking middle America into action and anger.
I don't know if I would go as far to call it a civil war, but it is defintely a cultural war. Middle America is now fighting to hold onto their valus---and money.
But look at the assault that middle America has been subjected to the last 20 years. They have seen their religions attacked and dismissed as trivial and having no place in public. Christmas is all but gone from town centers. They watch the great traditions they grew up with being cast aside like some piece of old junk, schools now call Christmas trees "Holiday trees" and Christmas vacation is now Winter Holiday. They have seen liberals "celebrate" the muslim faith while driving christian faith under ground.Look at the Univ. of Michigan installing foot baths for muslim students, while at the same time taking down all crosses including in the school chapel.
They took their kids to see a tradition they grew up with, the Macy's Christmas parade, and was subjected to an ending with Mr and Mr Santa Clause.
The have seen their morals attacked, being told homsexual behavior is just an alternative way of life and should now be referred to as gay.
They have seen human life dimished using their hard earned tax dollars to fund abortions, mostly as a way of birth control.
They have been called selfish for not wanting to see embryos destroyed for stem cell research.
They have seen colleges turned into factories that indoctrinate kids and turn out liberals on the parents dime.
They have seen these same schools trash ROTC members and the military at carreer days, many of these parents having had fathers that served in WWII.
They have watched the unions take over their their town schools and drive their property taxes up while turning in a sub par performance. Things like tenure protecting incompetent teachers, and schools more interested in socializing kids and celebrating diversity than teaching the three r's.
They have seen a new president tell them to get in the face of any oppositition to his health bill.
They have seen a govt web site developed to ask citizens to snitch on those that disagree with their point of view.
They have witnessed congressmen and senators ignoring their constituents, and when they do come home calling them a mob for exercising their basic American rights, that of questioning our representitives.
They turn on the TV and can not even depend on being told the truth, the watch dog media has died. Instead the people feel betrayed by news people that feel they are a part of the administration and it is their job to defend and spin for them.
The newspapers they could once count on for reporting all the news fit to print now celebrate guys like Bill Ayers. The parents of these journalists considerd people like Ayers to be what he is a terrorist and muderer. But now they see a media that embraces him and a president that kicks off his campaign in Ayer's apt and he sees nothing wrong with that.
They see a president that feels he has to apologize for us being Americans.
As well as a president who refers to Americans as "they" when speaking about us.
So you ask if we are in a civil war---I don't think so, but defintely the silent majority has been woken up, and will be silent no more.
I believe a lot of these guys will be shocked in nov 2010, I think the word of that old song will come back to haunt them... we'll remember in November when we vote.
The Shark
It is interesting how Matthews true feelings about what his role as a "serious news analyst" is and no other news reporting agency cringes except FOX news. The Florida election in 2000 was the biggest indicator of how Democrats do things.
They did not request a statewide recount but simply wanted to cherry pick liberal counties and ignore the rest, When the Bush team attempted to do the same thing the Democrats screamed foul and the liberal media attacked the Republicans!
You are correct Shark when you say a sleeping giant has been awakened and I do not think the DNC is going to be happy with mudstomping that will occur in 2010!
As we say in Chtuch on Sunday Tex, We paray to the Lord.
the shark
Well, A Texan, I've seen Matthews get it wrong, but I've also seen him get it right. What I don't like about him is that he talks over his guests and then pronounces a verdict as to how the "debate" went. I am still uncertain as to what he believes because he says one thing on Monday and then the other thing on Wednesday. Is he just using a journalistic technique or devil's advocate? Or is he just causing a flare up to get ratings? hard to tell in my book, but I still watch him a few times a week just to see what he's up to.
Morning Joe on MSNBC has taken a more moderate conservative view as of late. Do you watch that show?
I used to like Lou Dobbs but recently he has really become less business oriented and more of a ranter. I think he will come out of it, but he has gone from focusing on issue he knows something about, to those where he is a novice.
I don;t listen to any political radio talk shows, either Right or Left because I know the agenda and don't need to be told every little bit of new gossip. Just the same, from what I have heard in the past I don't care for it. It's too full of angry tension and I don't need any more anger in my life.
Matthews worked for LBJ, what more do you need to know?
As for listening to political radio, I don't hear gossip I generally hear a breakdown of what is happening, it is the only place to get something outside of the liberal wave.
We have been hurt a lot less anytime a republican is in office, for all of the vile hatred spewed at Bush about his spending he gave us tax payers two tax cuts and made them retro active to the previuous year.
The dems have only been in for 8 months and the "new democrat" promising change gave us change as the same old liberal change, tax and spend.
Do you really think we would have a one trllion dollar deficit, 4 trllion in new spending, GM taken over by the govt and the health indusrty next on the agenda to be taken over if McCain were President?
I seriously doubt it.
The Shark
Shark - as far as the media goes I think it's a vast 4th estate conspiracy . . .
But really, what I do see happening is like this - the viewer is like an asteroid coming into the atmosphere. Each network fires their lasers at the asteroid, being very careful not to break it but to control where it goes and how fast. The only down side to this story is that the asteroid is now in the atmosphere and there's just no stopping it from crashing to earth.
I know, not a pretty picture but it does explain their polarizing efforts.
HI X,
Interesting way to put things, well the pressure is being applied. The community organizer was about 3 miles from my office today spewing his propoganda about his made up health crisis.
The only people that have a health crisis is the illegals.
The Shark
Could you see anything? Everyone there was hand-picked - I'm positive. How did it go? And I love the patriot on church property with the banner.
As expected lots of security. But the venue was definitely salted. I loved the government school teacher:
Thank you so much for coming here to speak to us, I am a teacher here in the very building where you are speaking.
Please save us, I wanted to throw up, you think God's second son had brought the holy grail.
But tomorrow is the big day X, we have a rally outside my useless congressman's office to see if we can get him out from hiding under his desk.
It was a great story about the calls I placed to his office. I'll just tell you this, his secretary said he's just to busy with Michelle Obama's volunteerism program.
I'll keep you posted.
The Shark
In all fairness President Bush did the same thing. I was barred from one of his events before 2004 because I didn't have the OK from our local Rebublican committeeman.
I think it's just a political thing.
As for the useless conressman, remeber that the opposite of progress is congress.
I like the definition.
The thing with Obama is that he makes it so obvious, the little girl who asked the question in Ports NH was the daughter of the couple that ran his MA campaign. And the other thing he did at the press conference on health care was pick the woman he knew from Chicago to close out and just happened to "read" her question about racism. Of course that was the one that took Obama and the countries eye off of the health bill.
But I went to see Bush in Ports NH and no one asked me the affiliation.
Obama would have been better off with some adversarial questions, it just looked like a dog and pony show with the crowd clapping after every sound bite on government health.
Shark
Yes,a lot of these events, including townhalls, looked staged to me. Why can't we just get some straight facts? I'm still waiting to see just what this health care reform will look like. I am disappointed that Obama has not come out in favor of something and stuck with it. While you and I will probably disagree on what should or should not be done, I'd still like to see some concrete plans and decisions, so I can decide whether or not to support it.
Chef, reform is exactly that reform. What Obama wants is not reform but a take over of the industry. We have that in MA now, and just like most entitlements, once you get them on the books it's impossible to get rid of them. MA has MA health for the "uninsured", which is mostly lay abouts that won't pay for their own. But now he have hundreds of thousands on the "free" state health plan and it's bankrupting the state. There is no way to get rid of it now, too many people on the govt plan. Same thing will happen with the federal plan. Then to pay for it they will say too many people aren't meeting their bill so we need a Health with holding tax to collect the premiums. But your tax will actually be more than what is required for your health care, because they will need you t help to cover the non payers, all those earning under 40K that will be "entitled" to get it "free." Which means you and I pay for others.
There is no other way to cover the expense, it's happening in MA now, in addition to a huge new tax on businesses.
The Shark
My cost for insurance may already be higher than my share of coverage, because the nature of health care is the shared cost of coverage. Mortality tables, for example, lump us all into specific groups and we pay the coverage averaged out, for the most healthy and the most ill.
What if I am in great health? Does that mean my premium should be less than someone with cancer? Maybe, but it isn't. Also, the lack of competition between health care providers, for example, in North Carolina, where one company has about 85% of all the business, is a vital priority in getting to lower costs through open markets. I have no problem with that. It is the monopoly, which the Federal Government did not create, but which the State Governments did, that bothers me. You and I and everyone pays for that kind of favoritism.
Fortunately in Illinois we have a lot of choices, but even here my State-provided insurance coverage (I work for the state) will not allow me much room to shop around. I can only go to those clinics & physicians that are signed up for my program. If my doctor drops off, then I have to find another.
One other thing: Now that Illinois is in such deep financial problems, many health clinics are refusing to accept my state insurance. I might as well be under-insured because the clinic I like to go to has told me, cash or no service.
Things are bad out here, and not just for a few. Am I content with my health insurance? I was, but how can I be content to pay into a policy that I can no longer use?
BTW, this habit of late payments is not a new thing, it has just finally hit the point where clinics can no longer wait 18 months for routine payments.
Actually the group is based on your age sex and health when you signed. Someone with an existing life threatning illness would not qualify unless employeed by a large employer. Costs on a gov't run plan can only go up. Higher income earners will be "contributing" more to pay for income earners under 40k per year. Then there will be extra tack ons like a $12 to $20 per month surcharge to cover abortions that others are having. The list will go on and on.
We haven't even begun to see what the effect this plan will have on our economy. Like most federal social plans it will just get larger and larger and require more taxes from who? The working people of America, especially those over a certain income.

Gotta love Chris (I feel a tingle going up my leg) Matthews, I really don't know how these MSNBC commentators stay employed. They are trounced daily in the ratings even fake news "The daily show" beats them! I have actually tried to watch all three shows his, olberman, maddow and can't get through one segment. They offer nothing of substance and the hatred is hard to watch! Great observation on Van Buren I was just saying the same thing to somebody the other day!
