Ocicat Boo

I share my life with an ocicat named Boo. He is the only man in my life at the moment. He is a constant source of pleasure for me and makes my life better. As some of you who read my other hub about Boo know, Boo is blind. If I didn't tell you that, you would have a hard time noticing right away. He gets around just fine and hardly ever walks into walls any more.

When I come home at night. Boo runs to the door to greet me. If I don't pet him right away he will meow at me until I do. Then he runs to the place where he gets his treats; he gets impatient with me if I don't do it immediately.

Brat

Boo can be a bit of a brat at times. He loves to chew on things. He ruined my favourite pair of leather shoes once, and a pair of runners. Now I have to keep my shoes in the closet. I can't leave a cardboard box around; Boo will chew on it and spit out pieces all over the floor. I currently have a huge box that some furniture came in that he insists on chewing.

He also bites occasionally, usually after he has gotten very excited because we were playing. The bites are not serious and I can usually avoid being bitten; the look in his eyes tells you that the fun is over. I do have a few scars on my arms from times when I wasn't quick enough.

Who me?
Who me?

Personality

Boo is a very social cat. He loves it when company comes to visit. It gives him more people to rub against. More people to tell him how handsome he is.

Boo does not like a closed door. If a door is closed, he must try and open it. It doesn't matter that he never goes in that room or cupboard. If it is closed it is a challenge. Boo loves a challenge and will find a way around any obstacle.

Boo has the strongest personality of any cat I have ever had. I am not sure if it's his breed alone. He follows me around everywhere. If I ask him if he wants out, he meows loudly. He knows his name and comes when I call.

Boo loves to cuddle and always sleeps right up against me. If I'm sitting on the couch he comes and sits beside me, making sure his butt is against me. He has never been a lap cat.

Occasionally I get impatient with Boo, especially when I am trying to write on my laptop and he insist on walking over my lap...like he just did right now. But, I never stay mad at him for long. He is the most loving and affectionate cat I have ever owned and I can put up with the odd disruption.

Boo's first video, from my cell phone

Boo came into my life at a time when I needed him most. My mother had just died a couple of years before (actually Boo was born about a month after she died), I was in a job that made me miserable, and my cat of 17 years had just been put down. I didn't think I would get another cat so soon, but then Boo showed up. I talked about how I got him in my previous hub about him.

I am so glad I get to share my life with such a beautiful creature.

I started a cafepress shop dedicated to the Ocicat. It features a few pictures of Boo and text items. Check it out, it's called Ocicat Boo (surprise, surprise).

I have 6 cats again ( one just had 2 kittens) Everytime I get my cats fixed another stray shows up-but I love them all.I am so glad you have Boo- cats are wonderful companions, so loving, and yet they can be brats...lol !! And I know what you mean about them walking around/on/through/ and over everything while you trying to write!!I deal with this everyday!

What a Bootiful cat (OK, lame joke). But seriously, well done hub and he really is gorgeous. In my cat series, I was going to write about the Ocicat (and still may). Unlike some of the other "fancy" cats, Ocicats do not have any wild blood in them - that is my understanding. If and when I write my hub, I will definitely link to this one! :-) Steph

No, ocicats are just a cross of Siamese, Abyssinian and American Shorthair.

I had to read your Hub, when I saw it was about cats. Our beloved Joey returned tonight, sometime when the sliding door was open to the basement. He crawled into one of the dog kennels and has only moved to gobble up food and water. For a week now, he has been away, nursing a wound inflicted upon him by a fox, we figure. We all heard the confrontation on our porch at 3am- and then he didn't come home and didn't come home. What a relief to see him tonight, although his back legs are not functioning properly. I have a call into the vet and have done my bit of Reiki on him, which he always appreciates. He is a typical orange cat, hunter, loving and loyal. He runs his large bushy tail across our schnauzer's back, as a sign of his affection. I know there are those out there who would criticize me for letting my cat do the dangerous work of hunting, but Joey was in his element when outside... so now we wait... and we will adapt, simply glad cats are blessed with nine lives... it's nice to share cat tails, isn't it? Thanks.

Simply gorgeous! I love the fact that you mentioned being able to tell when he was going to go in for a bite. My persian does the same thing, and you can just tell that its coming. My girl bites when she gets to excited. Usually when Im petting her, she gets all excited, so much so that she goes in for a playful nip. lol.

Cats are cool. They are so casual, making it seem they are gracing you with their attention, they have so much to do..when they need a nap..20 times a day...it's always better to nap cuddled up to the one they love!
