Ostia Antica

This was the actual port area itself.

This air theater is used today and can seat up to 4000 people.

I loved these trees!
I loved these trees!
I allowed myself in this photo to give an idea of how vast these Roman baths were. The sailors would unload the ships, then get off the ship, take a bath in one of these massive bath houses and then go out into the streets for shopping and food.

Ostia Antica Ancient Port City of Rome

The Tiber River in Rome used to twist around to this area and this city at one time was the Port City for Rome. In the 1970's this city was miraculously found covered in ancient MUD. The mud was cleaned off and this amazing city emerged. Remarkably intact! This is one of the coolest places I've ever seen. I tas almost as if I could picture the Romans who walked these streets!
